Lose To Win

After a rough couple of months that saw this American Idol winner battling folks over Instagram comments, Fantasia is finally back to focusing on her music by releasing the fab video for “Lose To Win,” off her upcoming Side Effects of You album. On her Great Gatsby ish, Fanny deals with the stress of a less than faithful lover who she can’t seem to let go of as she dresses in pearls, extravagant (looking) jewels, furs, a chick short wig with blunt bangs and more roaring twenties and thirties looks.

The song itself has some really good lyrics (Have you ever needed someone so bad?/But he ain’t willing to make it last/Sometimes you gotta lose to win again) and as a whole, it’s not bad–even if it the beat does remind me of a Tina Turner track circa the early ’90s. But then again, songs that pay homage to sounds from the past seem to be getting a lot of love, so do your thing Fantasia! This could definitely be a winner on the radio, and while I do enjoy the song, I’m ready to hear some more upbeat fun tracks from Fanny (dare I say that I loved “Hood Boy”?) because her music can sometimes come off a little gloomy this-woman-is-scorned like, but either way, I’m down. Let us know what you think of the video below!

Play. Nice classic Video. Quality wise this is her best to date. Storyline seems similar to “Bittersweet” with a few differences. Nice seeing a music video with good quality AND a decent storyline. I wish the song didn’t sample “Nightshift” so much but it’s still a nice song. Nice change of pace from the usual run-of-the-mill ballads. The song has great lyrics that people can relate too.

Yes. Me likes! Fanny may have her issues, but her talent continues to shine through! Especially in this sea of talent-less and superficial celebrities that are out here nowadays.

Such a unique voice…I wish her much success! You may not like somethings about her choices but you can never deny her talent.

Thank you @mel for making the correction regarding Commodores, not Tina Turner. I liked the lyrics. The video was ok though I would have liked to see her walk away more defiantly. And, I liked the 1920’s theme. It had more style and class than what is now considered contemporary and up-to-date. Right on Fantasia!

I like the lyrics of this song!!

  • beautiful mic

I appreciate the instrumentals, only because of its origin, but not in this song. I appreciate the authenticity and quality of the vocals, sincerity, lyrics and meaning of the song, even, the storyline…just not the setting/theme of the video.

  • mel

song is very reminiscent of “The Night Shift” by Commodores (almost identical) not so much Tina Turner.

  • marie epps

play that over and over….yes indeed
