New York Man Decapitates Mother, Then Poses With Severed Head

It seems as if news headlines get more gruesome with each passing day. The latest tragedy involves 23-year-old Bashid McLean, a New York man who is alleged to have murdered and dismembered the remains of his mother, Tanya Byrd with a jigsaw, reports the NY Daily News.

On Tuesday of last week, a man discovered Tanya’s mutilated remains while walking his dog. The way it is being reported, the man called police when he saw a human leg sticking out of a garbage bag. Police later discovered the 45-year-old mother’s remaining body parts in multiple bags scattered throughout several blocks in the surrounding Bronx neighborhood. A schizophrenic McLean, who according to his attorney has been skipping out on taking his medication for days, is said to have been harboring some sort of resentment towards his mother, says the Huffington Post.

“He did destructive things. He set fires. Nobody could control him,” said McLean’s father.

Tanya’s sister described her as a “beautiful mother” and a “hard worker.” DNA Info reports that McLean fatally struck his mother as she slept. He then took money from her purse and went off to purchase the saw that was used to dismember her remains. McLean later posed for a cell phone photo smirking and holding his mother’s severed head as if it were some sort of trophy.

According to the New York Post, McLean, who was arraigned last week, insisted that he did nothing wrong.
“I didn’t do anything wrong! I don’t need anything at all. I didn’t do anything wrong,” said McLean when his lawyer insisted that the suspect be administered his medication.

McLean’s friend, William Harris is also being brought up on charges, as he is accused of assisting with the dismemberment and disposal of Tanya Byrd’s remains. Byrd leaves behind a 7-year-old son.

Sad.
