Pass Or Play? Kendrick Lamar Releases “Poetic Justice” Video

February 22, 2013  |

You may have heard that when it comes to new rappers on the scene, Kendrick Lamar’s name is almost always mentioned. With a distinct voice, smooth flow and deep lyrics, Kendrick is definitely one to watch. His album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, is full of gems but Poetic Justice, the single he released, seems to be everyone’s favorite. With a sampling of Janet Jackson’s “Anytime,” there were rumors that Janet was going to make an appearance in the video. She was even see recently rocking her iconic box braids. She didn’t make an appearance in the video, but the treatment is nicely done and sends a message. Plus there’s a nod to Poetic Justice the movie in there. You’ll appreciate it.

I liked the video. Kendricks part is the reason why I love this song but one thing that I didn’t like with the video is the female selection for Drake’s part. I mean his part isn’t that important but it would be nice if they picked an east african girl beacuse the he’s text was about an east african girl but she didn’t looked like one at all.

she was laying in the bed half naked…what do east african girls look like laying in the bed half naked?

  • chanela

um.. this video is depressing as hell

I think the end was supposed to be like the opening scene of Poetic Justice, when Justice and Markel (Q-tip) was at the drive in and them dudes shot him cause of some incident from a few days before… thats the best explanation i can really piece together..

      • chanela

yeah i never seen the movie, but still how depressing! lol

        • Keisha Samoht

Well its a good one, yes its depressing but its a good movie overall. You got Tupac, Janet, Regina King, Joe Torrey… oh and her ex-husband even had a cameo in the movie… i recommend it.

Play over CONSTANT rotation. The video has made me love the song even more. And i am happy with the female lead. She wasn’t dressed with everything out, she was just lookin like an everyday chick. So kudos to the director.

I love the video. It fits the song perfectly, and its nice to see a pretty brown skin regular looking girl as the lead love interest.

    • Keisha Samoht

      exactly my thoughts

The song was alright ( at least with Kendrick’s part) However, I don’t care what anyone says. I could have done without Drake and his part. . . .talking about “that a** in that sundress”. Negro please. I don’t care how many half-naked big booty women you have in your videos. . . you will still be wet behind the ears. . and to add insult to injury, he is always trying to be “deep” when he is not.

    • Ms. Kameria

I could have done without his part in the video as well.

      Drake always ruins the song.

      • Keisha Samoht

Drake needs to take 500 seats

  • cariBEEan

i love this song, and the video is extra dope.. nothing too flashy, it matches the song perfectly

SN: Janet’s braid are a nice a little gesture

  • AnonyChick

    I love this man.
