Last month news broke that “Love & Hip Hop” star and boyfriend to Yandy Smith, Mendeecees Harris was facing sexual assault charges for allegedly coercing his ex-girlfriend’s 15-year-old daughter into having partaking in sexual acts with him for money. Last week, the trial concerning those allegations began. We reported on his accuser’s disturbing testimony, his defense that the young woman’s stories were fabricated and eventually, the “not guilty” verdict. After a period of remaining rather quiet about the case, Yandy Smith composed an in-depth open letter about how she felt during the trial, what she thought of the verdict and to thank her supporters, which she posted to her website, Everything Girls Love. An excerpt from the letter reads:

“To My Supporters,

The past few weeks have been some of the hardest days, hours, and minutes of my life. I found myself torn between a man that I know and love, and an accusation that makes me sick to my stomach. I hoped and prayed that someone I loved so dearly could not be guilty of such a disgusting and shameful act… I hoped, but I did NOT assume.

I chose to stay silent until I was able to hear both sides and form my own opinion. I went to court every single day; I listened intently to the case from both sides ready to face whatever truth was revealed.

In the end, the truth is Mendeecees Harris may be many things, but he is NOT guilty of the heinous accusations made against him. I won’t get into much detail because at the other side of this is a young woman that regardless of the outcome, remains broken. I pray that she is able to move past this and realize her full potential and I pray that the world is able to accept that in this case justice was served.

As a woman, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and a human being, it breaks my heart when I hear of crimes committed against children. There is nothing worse than offenses against those whose lives are so precious and who look to us to guide them and help them understand the world. Children that are abused are robbed of their innocence, their childhoods, and their self-esteem. They’re robbed of their optimism and dreams and forced to see the evils of the world before they can see the beauty.

My life has been and will continue to be devoted to empowering women and helping young women to aspire to accomplish and go after their dreams and because of this, I would never knowingly or willingly support or condone any behavior contrary to the very things I stand for. I am so thankful to the people who supported us and stood by our side through what was an extremely overwhelming and challenging time.

To those of you who have supported me, prayed for me, and did not pass judgement, I want to say THANK YOU. Your prayers and support have helped me through a very difficult time. I have worked very hard to build a reputation based on hard work, loyalty, and perseverance. The faith, values and ethics that got me to this point in my life are stronger now than ever before. My personal life has been a roller-coaster this year, filled with highs and lows, and I’d be lying if I say I have it all figured out. I don’t. I’m giving it up to God and I’m leaving it up to him to guide me in the right direction as he’s done many times before. In the meantime I’m going to focus on what I do best, business. After all, they don’t call me a “Hustlapreneur” for nothing.

With Love

Yandy Smith”

    SO was OJ. Nuff said

Her response is thoughtful and mature. It seems she was trying to be open-minded, but was she ever really going to against her BD? It kind of like she was hoping not guilty would make him innocent. Anyway, she better keep him away from any nieces, JS!

i feel real bad for making an assumption and made an a$$ of myself…

  • He seems very young and immature for her. Hope it works.

  • I think this letter was very well stated. She laid her side of the story out, without forgetting to be considerate of all parties involved. It shows she is a lady and a mature caring individual. As for the allegations I’m going to go as far as saying I don’t believe he did these things. It’s all too shady to me on the part of the Ex- and her daughter. We all have heard the term a woman scorned. It comes to mind in this case. I pray Yandy continues to be strong and receive the support and encouragement she needs to get herself and her family through the next stage of this drama which will be his drug charges.

I believe the letter was heartfelt and I can appreciate it. The Not Guilty verdict means that the procecution did not deliver the case BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT. So I don;t understand that everyone is saying he did not do “anything” In all honesty…only Him, God, and the girl knows what happened. I am just truly blessed that this hasn’t happened to me!

Exactly! And if any case if it wasn’t rape, it may have been consentual….which is still pretty disgusting on his part, she was still a child

Like someone else said, being found not guilty is not the same as being innocent. But like someone else said we weren’t there so we really don’t know what happened. But Mandeecees is still facing those drug charges, let’s see how that goes.

Yandy….not guilty doesn’t mean innocent. Where there is smoke….there is or was fire but cook sweetie…. enjoy your baby daddy

  • None of us knows what happened. We weren’t there. But if he did it once he WILL do it again especially if he got away with it. So time will tell. I am very proud of Yancy. She’s no fool. I wish her and her beautiful son the best.

Okay, so what’s the real deal? Was this girl asked questions about Yandy’s BOYfriend’s phallus, and was unable to answer the questions in detail. Was she not able to note some particular body feature? A mole, scar? Whether he is circumcised? Or did you guys pay for a really good lawyer? SPLAIN DAT!

  • Very well stated. She was open and honest about how she perceived the allegations against her child’s father. She’s also very mature and about her business… Mendeecees should consider himself very blessed to have such a woman by his side.
