This Is Why The Grammy’s Had To Tell People To Cover Their A**es — Literally — This Year

Toni Braxton may have broke the award show mold, when in 2001 she hit the stage to accept her Grammy in a v-neck curtain panel with straps around the hip-bone. Absolutely nothing was left to the imagination in this dress, except maybe the color of Toni’s areola. CBS wants no parts of that this year.

I know people who wouldn’t even wear Toni Braxton’s “dress” to the beach.

  • harold jack

The winners are: Pink, Toni & RiRi!!!

  • Lynn

Who wrote this piece? The writer’s bad grasp of appropriate wording is laughable, if I found it humorous.

  • biglittlemason3

    LOL….ain’t that the damn truth……

Thank god! I’m so tired of seeing all they skin at these awards shows. Let’s have some class back in this thing!

  • AndreaS

I don’t know why it’s solely aimed at woman. I don’t want to see male breasts, buttocks, and genital regions either.

  • CoverItUp

Ewww, who wants to see Toni’s cellulite anyway?

  • Cheryl

Pink wore that for a performance. I don’t think she walked the red carpet in that

  • Gel

I personally don’t think her body looked good enough for this outfit anyway. It’s naturally beautiful and I too have stretch marks in those places and what not, BUT even though I’d never wear anything like this, if I did..esp on national tv, I’d put in wayyy more work at the gym. About the same as an athlete. And I would have def used some lotion, bronzer, spray paint whatever. Looks like we caught a glimpse of her walking around her bedroom!!!

  • jane polacek

    i think they looked great.

  • Wanda Simpson

Toni Braxton’s dress was the ugliest dress ever. I hope she burned it when the grammy’s was over.

  • Stacy

OK. I think Pink has a very tone and fit body, but still, you got to cover up more.

  • Stacy

Toni Braxton. No. Just NO! She’s usually classier than this. That piece of fabric was not at all pretty. You can’t call it a dress. It’s some cloth held together with a piece of string. I think it’s awful looking.

  • LJ

    What is a public bone?

  • Susan Parker

Sleeeeeezy not a good example for our youth.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jeffreytoddlane Jeffrey Todd Lane

she looks like a drag queen. Is she really a girl?

  • theulove

she coulda at least put some makeup on dem stretch marks

  • dena

    omg toni… That the end..

  • Bubbah

One of the things I loved about Whitney, she was always beautifully dressed from head to toe. She NEVER performed looking like a skank!!

Yeah, Pink’s outfit DOES look so bad in that picure. It’s just plain ugly, for one thing, Toni Braxton is a cute little woman, but stretch marks don’t look good on anybody, and I can see hers from here in that dress. Things must have really gone too far in recent years because, I don’t think Rihanna’s black gown is all that bad, comparatively. But, the one she wore that looks like it was inspired by a poodle pushes the limits of bad taste as well as modesty. I hate seeing butt crack, so I’m glad they advised them against doing crack. Every time I’ve ever seen someone’s butt crack in public places, I’ve always wished I could plant a flower there to beautify it.

  • Roseet23

    Pink* Wear*

  • SM

I would guess that many artists choose their outfit well in advance of the awards show. CBS’s requirements seem to have come out quite late.

  • NVAdamzz

Lady Gaga was just trying to prove to everyone that she didn’t have man parts. And I’m so mad at Toni Braxton for that dress. Everybody didn’t need to know that she has stretch marks on her a*s

  • Dichu eba realy lub mehSteebie

    Rick Ross….this means you…

    • Taj

Thank you. Just because you have man boobs, doesn’t mean you have to advertise them. Besides, he looks like a walrus with tatoos. Any $10 XXXXL t-shirt will do.

      • Susan Parker

        LOL

  • SexyBrownSuga

IJS, CBS should have been put a stop to that nonsense after Toni Braxton’s “pieces of fabric” hit the red carpet!!!

  • JAYLUV1

yes back to old hollywood dressing. should be fresh to see.

  • Rosealine

and you would think that with all their so called money and riches they would dress well, SHAME! I’m so glad for the dress code, way to go CBS!

  • Is It 5:00 Yet?

Those outfits are just plain ridiculous.

  • NYC Gal

The Grammy’s need to STFU! They got alot of publicity from alot of this risque dressing and now they want to send out memos! SMDH!

  • lateshia

Wow, thanks for posting this article, but then again its a shame. Grown people should know better and dress right for an event. There are probably young kids watching the event no one want to see your naked body. I remember when I was a kid in the 80’s watching award shows people actually dressed like they had some sense and didn’t have to flash their bodies to get attention. I love Toni Braxton but when I saw that dress back in 2001 I was shocked. Toni is one of my favorite singers but really she didn’t have to dress that way. Then you have that one scary lady Lady Ga Ga wearing all kind of crazy get ups and her crazy twin Nikki Minaj doing the same thing. I don’t know what is up with these celebrities.

    • spiritual but human

I agree with you and people in the 80’s could SANG unlike these folks they are worshiping today. Whitney Houston, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Phylis Hyman, Anita Baker, just to name a few, didn’t have anything to prove but their voices. They did not dress like sluts. Since talent lacks nowadays they have to show skin to make up for it. Toni Braxton, the one who can sing, should have known better.

      • Taj

“Whitney Houston, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Phylis Hyman, Anita
Baker, just to name a few, didn’t have anything to prove but their
        voices.”

Notice that most of the people that you listed have stayed true to the R&B Sound. Therefore, many of these artists are out for “mass” appeal. Unfortunately, this has left a vacuum for R&B although there are artists like Anthony Hamilton and Jill Scott. I imagine this drive to “cross over” is true for other genres like Country Music. Therefore, it seems to be more about the “product” than the music. However, as long as people are willing to spend their money towards “said” artists, average talent and scantily clad clothing on the red carpet and on stage is going to remain the new normal.

  • http://twitter.com/joy2MiKASworld Shamika.

Toni was wearing ripped up sheets lol

  • JustSayin

Eh. It’s fashion. People have been dressing “risky” for years… And; Jennifer Lopez & Toni Braxton are FAMOUS for these risky outfits. The designers? Same thing. Its all about show business. Welcome to it.

  • Excepcion

Ha ! I had forgotten how thirsty and desperate Toni Braxton presents herself. Just gross.

    • Gwendolyn Parker

I agree about Toni Braxton an to think she has children, and a living mother. I was embarrassed for her, back then. But today, Toni still thinks she is the cat’s meow….not. We should all feel good about ourselves and body, but this is utterly disgraceful.

  • beautiful mic

I’m not the most home-trained person it the world, but it would be great if they could re-instate that as a criteria in the ‘so-called’ professional world of entertainment. I love looking at old clips of entertainers when they were more refined and prideful in their presentation.

    This mess, here, is disgusting.

  • pickneychile

Lol some of these outfits are sooo ugly even beyond the skank factor. I’m laughing at the phrase”female breasts”…spectators don’t need to be seeing any male breasts either, Rick Ross take note!

  • Zettai

I am so sick of “artists” being risque for the sake of being risque. If your music was all that nobody would care what you looked like!

  • Candacey Doris

Thank god! I’m so tired of seeing all they skin at these awards shows. Let’s have some class back in this thing!

  • mac

now isn’t this a shame? Grown folks of this stature gotta be told not to show the world their a** and nipples? You can’t buy class, as they say.

    • Faith

I agree, grown people, it has to come down to this. These people don’t even care. Sad. I know you can be creative and “push the envelope” but this foolishness is extreme.

    • xtruthtellerx

Only ugly fat people have a problem with beautiful bodies being on display.

      • clandestinepower

that’s not even remotely true, and the sad thing is, you know it. but nice try, i guess?

  • Meyaka

I’m in total agreement with that decision.
