Name Belt

As much as you may love the look and sound of your name, there’s no reason it needs to be plastered across your waist. No reason at all. The name belt trend went on for entirely too long. There were the rhinestone covered name belts, electronic name belts and then finally the scrolling, electronic name belts. It just went way too far. And though you may find it hard to believe, when I went home for Christmas, just this past December, they were still being sold at a kiosk in the mall.

  • I’m still waiting for my Jersey dresses to come back in. I had the denim catsuit, several velour sweat suits, the bandanas, and one of those god ugly bubble shirts.

  • chanela

oh hell naw! does anyone else remember that trend of using colorful brastraps as an headband? or what about those scrunchie socks where the more you put on, the puffier they got? those joints need to be added!!LOL

  • psylocke_2001

Ya’ll forget the stilleto Timbalands. Eeeeww.

  • Lolita

Bandanas: Master P and No Limit days
Valour jump suits: Jennifer Lopez hot days and Victoria S. Models
Cat Suits: Janet Jackson and Brittany Spears
    Jersey dresses: Mya
Bedazzled and name belts: Cash money bling bling days
Suspenders: Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Brittany Spears did it.
Jelly Bean Shoes: Just a part of the 90’s trends for elementary school girls.

  • Lolita

Oh I had all of these I’m 25 by the way but I think it was because in middle and high school I was plain old Spoiled rotten! I was the fashion Queen and if I saw it I had to have it. Now I don’t keep up with fashion I’m a working woman with bills and responsibles .lol

  • Long Island Girl

Jersey Dresses were everything when I was 8-9. I should bring them back. If they can bring Snapbacks back, I can bring back Jersey dresses

  • maggie

Please, you go to any mid to high end website for women’s apparel, you will find Melissa shoes. . . . . in 2013!

  • Sagittarius81

I still have my red velvet jumpsuit, I had it for my wedding party with word “bride” written across the back of my hoodie. Plus I’m guilty of the jeans catsuit, jersey dress and bandanna (which I still wear to the gym), but never heard of the Melissa shoes.

  • Zettai

I still rock my velour at the grocery store or when I’m checking the mail. That ish is comfortable and looks a hell of a lot better than a hanes sweatsuit!

    • NiceNasty

Yes you are so right!!! LOL

  • RenJennM

Suspenders are dope, I don’t care WHAT you say. lol And jersey dresses were the ish back then, but I wouldn’t wear it now. I miss my denim dress though (the dress version of the denim catsuit in the picture). I looked so fly in it! The rest of those trends were always wack to me. Bandanas are iffy to me though: 1) they’re rocked by gangs as “flags”, so why wear them anyway, and 2) if you HAVE to wear it, if done right, they can actually look really cool (google Rihanna in a bandana; she looked fly).

  • IllyPhilly

I find this offensive on all levels since there’s only three things on this list that I’ve never worn. IMO the catsuit is art, not very many women can wear one of those flawlessly. LOL.

  • Nikki

I only had a jumpsuit! I loved it. If I could find another one, I would buy it lol I did want some suspenders tho. I just didn’t know what to wear them with, so I never bought them.

  • Toni B

I find it funny that it’s 2013 and people still worry about what other people think of their clothing. Wear what you like, it’s that simple. If you like suspenders, wear suspenders. Clothing and hair shouldn’t be such a big deal, it’s sad that even adults participate in this.

  • Starbright

I am so glad this site hasn’t changed its comments section like your brother site. Anyway, what about those sweatpants that had sayings on the bottom with handprints? People with the widest backsides love to rock those. Lol. As for the list, I never wore any of the fashions listed.

    • Nikki

hahahaha! YES! I remember those “juicy” pants.

    • Hollander

Yes that sisters’ site comment section was the only reason I clicked on the “articles”.

      • Starbright

I assume that they changed just the mobile format. I went on my laptop and the format is still the same.

  • bluekissess

History will repeat itself one way or another. They will be hot again.

    • IllyPhilly

I am proud to say that I have never heard of Melissa shoes. Why, they look like the cause of funky feet.

  • Ms_Sunshine9898

If you know how you can rock a pair of suspenders to this day! why weren’t those tacky nike high heel boots on there? I know y’all remember crest jeans lol

    • Miss D

LOL! I had some iridescent Crest overalls and I wore them to death! Couldn’t tell me nothin lmao!

  • curlyk

I used to want a bubble shirt so bad in 5th grade. Until I tried it on and found it to be unflattering. Ick. The jeans and jean skirts with the different shades of denim patches were in. I wanted those bad as well. Just yesterday I saw a girl at my university with a red velour jumpsuit and I thought to myself “we still wear those? O_o” those should’ve been burned or boxed off to charity years ago

  • NubiaDiva

You can still rock a cat suit with a tailored jacket that runs past the hips… Reduce Reuse Recycle!

    • IllyPhilly

LOL. Screw that be bold and rock out with ya c0ck out.

  • sabrina

I used to have a name belt! I just don’t remember what it said lol but yessss, the electronic ones were mad extra!!!!

    • IllyPhilly

      Electronic ones? Wow.

    • Reese

I am ashamed to say I wanted one of the electronic ones when I was middle school. A lot of these trends were hot when I was in middle school but my mom wouldn’t let me have a lot of them because they were tacky and fads. I didn’t understand what my mom was saying then but now I do. I thank my momma for her foresight.

      • chanela

what?!?! the electronic ones were cool!!lol

        • Reese

LOL you said the keyword were. I can’t even lie I wanted one so, so, so, so bad. They made them in the Korean beauty supply store where I’m from. That should have been a red flag that, that wasn’t a good fashion trend.

  • AJ389

Guilty of the suspenders and guilty of the catsuit and yes I was under or right at 20 yrs at the time. Absolutely no way in the world I would rock a catsuit now (I don’t guess lol) even though my body is still pretty much the same. Nah my mind state is totally different and plus, I have a son I can’t do it.

  • Cassie

Fashion trends have a way of creeping back into style unfortunately.

  • Ny’Tia Patrice

Dang… I just rocked a pair of spenders at the office this week. Hahaha I actually got a ton of compliments on them

    • Hollander

      Girl bring it back!

    • IllyPhilly

Suspenders are the business. They should have had bright a$$ colored contacts on this instead of suspenders

  • KJ23

At first I was proud of myself, feeling like something because I haven’t worn any of these trends. And then you got to the bandanas, I had one in every color that I would wear with different outfits. like I was doing something. Shame.

  • Trisha_B

I HATED Melissa’s!!! lol they were just plain tacky to me…but uhmm i still rock my velour pants. Throw them on when i have an early class i don’t feel like getting dressed for, or when i’m running earnads. Nothing wrong w/ them lol

    • BricCity

Yes I love my velour. Not the full sweatsuit cuz it will literally make you sweat lol. But pants are great for running errands. However I LOVED my jellies when I was a youngin. Had the sandal version in Every color! Best dressed 6yr old in the summer lol
