I can’t say that I was really pumped about Willow starring in the remake of “Annie.” I was sure that she was going to be adorable in it, and I surely would have supported it when it came out, but it wasn’t something I was awaiting with baited breath. So  I guess I won’t be losing any sleep now that this celeb kid is out. Sony Pictures recently announced that Willow has “outgrown the role.” Development for the picture began when Willow was 9 and now that she’s 12, and something of a rocker chick, I’m sure it’s not good for her brand.

I don’t know if this was Willow’s idea, but you have to appreciate a girl who is autonomous at such a young age and is taking responsibility for her career.

I’m sure Willow would have been great in it, but hopefully now some other little black girl will get the chance to shine. If Quevenzhané isn’t too busy, then maybe she can swing it.

The film, which will be produced by Jay-Z’ Marcy Media and Will and Jada’s Overbrook Entertainment, is set to start shooting this fall.

Are you surprised Willow is passing on this role? Is it a good look for her? Who should play the role?

I think she’s too old for the movie. That little girl that just got nominated for all those awards looks more of a fit.

She’s definitely aged out of the role. By the time they start shooting she’ll be about 13 – with perhaps a more 13 year old physique. Kids usually play pretty close to their age for this reason (unless you are Emmanuel Lewis or Gary Coleman that played younger because of height.)

Ok…she hasn’t “outgrown” the role..actors rarely portray a character that matches their age. Brand? Ok, please…

It’s not exactly about her age. Actors (or actresses) are golden if they are small for their age. If you’re 4 you play 2. If you’re 9 you play 6 and as a 20-something you can play teens because actual teens are unreliable and have schedules. But Willow is not small for her age she LOOKS 12 Annie is about 8. Also, this role was not up her alley in the first place. Her “brand” is just another way of saying her image. Everyone sees her as the funky girl who is spontaneous and fashion-savvy. She would be playing an ORPHAN.

There are MANY people who play roles that aren’t affiliated with their brand (Ice T, Ice Cube..the list goes on) it’s called “acting”, but Annie doesn’t need to be remade. Not looking the supposed age hasn’t stopped anyone before. It’s a reboot.
