She Wasn’t Shooting In The Gym, She Was Raising Our Kids: Kobe Bryant Defends His Wife On Twitter

January 30, 2013  |

Last month we told you how after nine long months of being taunted by Drake’s infamous “You wasn’t with me shooting in the gym” line from his verse on Rick Ross’s “Stay Schemin” track, Vanessa Bryant had finally broken her silence via Instagram. She informed her followers that she didn’t need to be with him “shooting in the gym” because she was taking care of home. If you recall, in that particular line, Drake was referencing the healthy chunk of change that Vanessa would’ve been awarded back when the two almost divorced. Up until recently, Kobe remained fairly quiet regarding the matter.

The Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard recently tweeted about enjoying morning tea with his wife when a fan and Twitter follower reminded him of Vanessa’s absence during those long hours he spent in basketball practice.

“@kobebryant @LadyVB24 but… #SheWasntWithYouShootinInTheGym,” the fan tweeted.

Kobe calmly came to his wife’s defense.

“@lukashMAYYN No, she wasn’t. She was busy raising our kids #nonanny #respectmothers”

It’s good that Kobe is finally coming to his wife’s defense in this matter, especially since he used to seem thoroughly amused when fans would chant the phrase in an effort to demonstrate their support of him. It may have something to do with the two being officially back together  and dismissing their divorce action, which Vanessa announced last month via Instagram.

Now that Kobe has spoken, hopefully we can put this overused, abused and misused one-liner to rest once and for all. Although, it was a bit humorous to see fans actually walk up to Kobe and say it.

Check the next page to see awkward footage of fans chanting “She wasn’t with you shooting in the gym” while Kobe attempts to grab a bite to eat from a diner.

He has no respect for her. He’s just scared of her

It would’ve made more sense for him to defend her when the song came out forever ago…why are is this even coming up again?!?!?!?

  • KamJos

I still don’t know what the heck “shootin in the gym” even means and why it’s gotten to be so important to black people. Why is Drake so concerned with another man’s wife. I just don’t get it. I don’t think I want to either.

    • realadulttalk

You don’t understand “shootin in the gym” when it references a basketball player?? That’s a bit disturbing…

      • KamJos

I don’t understand why his wife had to be there when he was practicing playing or doing whatever he was doing while he was working. I don’t understand why it was a big enough thing for some unrelated rapper to put a line in a song about it.

#Nonanny cause she abused the last one and cost them $200K to settle out of court lol.

And nannies are for mothers who actually work last I checked.

I am glad he finally did defend her. What is the point of a husband if he cannot defends his wife?

    • L-Boogie

Sorry, for the typo…if he cannot defend…

  • bluekissess

Why are these two constantly defending one of Drake’s best lines? Who cares? Its not just Vanessa it’s the rest of these “Basketball Wives/Side pieces.” I’m just glad I didn’t marry that clown.

If Kobe respected his wife–perhaps others would follow suit. How’s he gonna ask people to respect her as a mother when he doesn’t respect her as a wife? GTFOH Kobe!!

Why are we still talking about this? Who cares what else she was doing? OF COURSE she wasn’t in the gym. That isn’t her job. There is no need to defend her. It is the truth that she wasn’t there. Let it go. That song was out how long ago????

  • chaka1

It’s their relationship. It’s their marriage. If he wants her at home and she wants to be there then that’s their business.

  • pretty1908

Good, drake emo self shouldve never said that… it was hella disrespectful and crass. Though Kobe isn’t the posterchild for a husband, but at least he spoke up

    • guest510

yea but I remember Kobe grinning from ear to ear when a fan yelled that from the crowd oneday. They both should have said something about it a year ago. And why are people still bringing that line up? They’re not even divorcing anymore
