Some news reports really make you wonder if bigotry, racism and sexism will ever be eradicated. The New York Daily News recently uncovered shocking evidence of racial and sexist slurs made by male construction workers rebuilding at the World Trade Center site. Not only is it shocking but insulting to the more than 2,800 people of all colors and creeds who died there during the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers.

The newspaper recently displayed photos of racially offensive graffiti made on bathroom walls throughout 1 World Trade Center. The areas, reports the Daily News, is “rife with repugnant graffiti — appalling scrawls that range from the N-word to sexist slurs and ethnic insults.” Over one set of urinals, someone wrote “Whites only.” Other slurs target President Obama, who visited the construction site last June.

The graffiti targets just about everyone, including people from the Middle East, the Irish, and African-American women. “The plywood men’s rooms, spaced every five floors in the $3.8 billion building, bring racism and sexism to new heights — and lows,” writes the newspaper. The anti-women remarks are extremely graphic.

Tishman Construction Corp. is overseeing the project, and according to the News has not made any official comment regarding the insulting graffiti.

The structure, which will 15,000 window panels and has been under construction since 2006, will open in 2014. The building will have 104 stories, making it the tallest in the Western Hemisphere.
