In Case You Were Wondering Why J-Hud Sang ‘Let’s Stay Together’ The Other Night, Al Green Turned It Down

I know more than a few people who were wondering if we had another Etta James situation on our hands when Jennifer Hudson took the stage during the Inaugural Ball Monday night to serenade the President and First Lady with her own version of Al Green’s hit “Let’s Stay Together.” If you weren’t sure, Al is still very much alive, and still has the same pipes he wooed our parents and grandparents with back in the ’70s, which is why plenty of folks have been asking why he didn’t sing his own song to the FLOTUS and POTUS instead of J-Hud. Well as it turns out, Al turned the President down!

In a statement to the Associated Press, brother Al’s rep said he had been asked to sing, “but scheduling conflicts prevented him from attending Monday’s festivities. Green said he’d be honored to sing for the president in the future.”

Dang Al, what kind of prior commitment could he have had? After all, we are talking about the Commander-in-Chief, who also  just so happens to be a huge Al Green fan. Remember when he hit the stage of the Apollo wit a little “Ahhhhh Ahhh Ahhhh I’m so in love with you”?

I’m sure Barack and Michelle can find sometime in the next for years to invite the rev to the White House but I really wanna know what Al was doing Monday night that couldn’t wait. He better not have been watching  “Love & Hip-Hop.” Oh wait, that was me! JK

DON’T BE TALKIN’ BOUT AL GREEN! I listen to him on Pandora err night, so if he had something else to do….oh, well! Yeah, I was yelling, but just joking. Maybe

Scheduling conflict? Another time? When is that going to happen? I would think he would jump at the opportunity since he’s a black man from the South who came up during the civil rights era. Interesting.

He will do it at another function. Now hush, Al has spoken.

I respect Al Green for that

I sure wish that he would have not turned down the invite to sing his song.

Well, at least JHud sang it live.

I was wishing Al Green would have been the one to sing his own hit….Jennifer was ok & I bet she was honored!

I am sure after hearing her sing, he wished had done it himself. Not her best performance,

Personally I thought Jamie Foxx’s song he did for Uncle Joe Biden and his wife was so much better for the occasion . . .

I loved that song! I want it for my wedding one day :)

This reminds me of the article about Ledisi and how she was quick to cancel her plans in order to sing at the inauguration. Well, there you go folks. There are some people who wouldn’t drop any and everythaang to sing for Obama.

Thinking the exact same. Although I can understand Ledisi I respect Al Green for holding up to his previous obligation. It is business in the end
