When people try to convince others to vote, especially young black people, the rationale is always the same. “People have died for the right to vote. You owe it to them to exercise that right.” That is true. People did die for the right to participate in a process that many of us take for granted today.  Blacks and women in particular worked very hard to make sure that people in our demographic categories have a voice in this country.

However, such arguments for voting often fall on deaf ears because we’ve heard it so many times that it sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher talking.  You know why you should vote? You should vote becaue there are some crazy mofos running for office and you need to be informed so you can vote in your best interest. Don’t just go by whoever is not a Republican either. Some of these unhinged folks run on third-party party lines, which means you didn’t see their names on the ballot in the primaries.

Maybe you didn’t vote this morning because you intend to vote after work or on your lunch break. Before you do that, make sure you know what to expect on your ballot.
