Did She Kill It? Listen To Beyonce’s Rendition Of The National Anthem During President Obama’s Inauguration

January 21st, 2013 - By Brande Victorian

The “Star Spangled Banner” is one of the most difficult songs to sing, even for the most gifted of singers, but Beyonce was up to the challenge today as she belted out the country’s national anthem during the inauguration of Barack Obama for his second term. Baddie Bey definitely put her own spin on the song as she closed out today’s ceremony, and even news anchors had to remark how each one of today’s performers, from Kelly Clarkson to King/Queen Bey knocked their songs out of the park.

Let’s see if you agree. Check out video of Beyonce’s performance this morning. Did she kill it?

(Also, am I the only one who saw Tina Knowles all up and through Bey’s face before she started singing?)

  • Just saying!!

I was initially going to comment that her rendition was kind of boring…particularly after the last national anthem she sang a few years back. But the news just reported that she lip synced the whole thing so that really doesn’t matter anymore lol

I’ma Bey fan …. she did “ai’ght” … a little lazy with all them low notes if you ask me. J. Hud did better and I’ve yet to see ANYONE top Whitney … *kanye shrug*

OAN: yeah I saw a little of Tina in the facial expression before she started now that you mention it … initially I thought I was watching her “transform” into Sasha Fierce

Actually the National Anthem isn’t that difficult to sing if folks sing in the right key and without all the extra “ooo’s and ahhhh’s”. Anywho, she did better than I expected. I can tell homegirl been taking some serious singing lessons. Kelly Clarkson was great

ahhh she did perfectly! bless, her nerves caught her when she finished though. Looked like she lost where she was going.

I’m not hating. Bey is cool. But this would never beat Jennifer Hudson’s version at the 2009 Super Bowl. Now THAT..gave me chills!

      I absolutely agree!!!

I usually don’t like Beyonce’s songs and didn’t respect her singing ability until 2004, I think it was, when she sang ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ at the Super Bowl. She’s a very talented singer and deserving of the fame. I just don’t get the visceral hatred people have for her. It reminds me of the way some people hate our president. Just “because”.

I get what you’re saying! I think it was bound to happen because she’s so overexposed. That’s for anybody. Someone who people love can very easily become a pain in the you know what when they get too much exposure all the time. Plus she makes life a little difficult for other great talented entertainers trying to make it because she’s always trying to take every opportunity she can. Not to mention she’s not very sincere :/ She’s a big act. I say that as a huge DC fan who remembers her “REAL” personality. You can’t blame her for any of these things though because she’s just trying to make people like her and stay relevant. But that is why some people dislike her to answer your question lol

I have to remind myself that we all have those people we just can’t stand. Kim Kardashian is that person for me. She just irritates me! And that stupid expression she always wears… But I think it bugs me that she’s famous just for hanging around famous people. She has no real talent that I know of. She gets an occasional TV role, which feels like some kind of invasion to me because I try to avoid her. I wouldn’t call those roles real acting, though.
