Jesus Be A Pitch Pipe: Alicia Keys To Sing The National Anthem During The Superbowl

January 18, 2013  |

I know the girl’s on fire, but some of Alica Keys’ most recent performances, not to mention 99% of American’s disgust with her latest track, has put out that blaze just a tad. But that doesn’t make A. Keys no nevermind because according to The Associated Press, she will be performing the National Anthem at the Superbowl February 3.

A person familiar with Super Bowl entertainmentplans broke the news to AP, but reportedly spoke on condition of anonymity because the NFL has not yet announced the anthem singer. So basically we can say Alicia Keys is going to sing it but we can’t really say for sure Alicia Keys is going to sing it. (We here but we not really here *Cue Rasheeda*).

Anywho, this makes for an even more interesting Superbowl lineup. The football event will likely already draw more viewers than usual with Beyonce headlining the halftime performance, plus rumors that the ladies of Destiny’s Child will join her on stage. I don’t doubt that even more people will tune in for tip-off now to see what spin Alicia Keys puts on “The Star Spangled Banner.” Here’s hoping (hard) for the best!

Are you excited to see Alicia Keys’ sing the National Anthem during the Superbowl?

LOL@ the Rasheeda shade! Good one, MN! Anywho, I think Alicia will do great. I think when she starts all that screeching and yelling, I think its nerves. It is a first album with such a brand new sound, thanks to her hubby Swizz. Honestly, If he knew music like he says he do, and really paid attention to his wife’s original fans and albums that won the most grammys, he would know what beats and music sounds best for her voice. And this album isn’t it (with the exception of like 3 songs) But all in all I think she will do well. Practice Alicia and don’t forget them words!

Is it me, or is Alicia’s voice just ok…not great, just ok.

    • Dichu eba realy lub mehSteebie

She is one of those people who either sounds really great or horrible with no in between. The national anthem starts low enough where she should be ok and doesn’t get too crazy high if she sings it the way its written, with no extra runs and crap. crossing my fingers because I love her

  • M$. LI$@

i think mariah carey is more qualified she has a powerful voice

  • Novelistic

    Not really excited.

      lol stop it!

I like Alicia Keys, but I can’t say that I am excited for her performance at the Super Bowl. I don’t understand why people think she isn’t a good vocalist.

  • Jaeda

Uh no im not looking forward to Miss Keys “singing” the National Anthem not that im a hater but there are plenty of other singers out there that could do a way better job than Miss
    Keys ( like Jennifer Hudson)

    • Shirl

No way on earth I want sorry but listening to Jennife Hudson yell the national anthem is not appealing either.

      • Shirl

Dang iPhone!!! Meant to say listening to Jennifer Hudson yell the national anthem is not appealing either.

  • Ooh La La

Alicia Keys, to me, is the perfect example of how songwriting and ability to play instruments can sometimes make up for mediocre vocal ability. I respect her artistry, but she is no great vocalist, and certainly not one who should be showcasing that by singing something as challenging as the national anthem.

    • THIS is one artist who may need to pre-record their track, Alicia Keys is a talented artist but mami can’t stay on pitch even if pitch was a bold line on the road

  • Solo40

Lol!!!! Now Y’all know y’all wrong for that. Lol!!

  • kickash

as long as she doesn’t screw up the words and overdo it like christina did, she should be fine. And if she doesn’t try to go out of her range, which she tends to do sometimes.

  • I’m pretty sure she’s not going to turn the National Anthem into a Girl On Fire anthem, she’ll do fine. 2 beautiful, successful & talented (black) women singing at the SAME Superbowl…I can’t wait!!! #focusonthepositive & #stopbeingsonegative 🙂

      Thank you.

  • On_Point

her homewrecking a z z sounded atrocious in her irl on fire song as the rest of her album. she is losing it/herself…..ahaha karma.

  • Ms_Mara

Lord. I think it starts off low enough that she should be OK. Hopefully.

  • Ehh

    Mixed feelings.

I’m thinking about her performance at Whitney’s funeral (especially on that ‘God send me an angeeeeeeeeeee*screech*eeelllllll’) and trying to translate that to ‘ O’er the Land of the Free’ and I’m not seeing good things happen with that. I’m thinking if Jesus can’t be a pitchpipe, BE A FENCE AND BAR THIS FROM HAPPENIN’ LAWD!

But then again it could work. If she uses the same audio system from The Black Girls Rock performance (that had her sounding smooth) and stays away from any key ABOVE middle C, it could turn out good.

    • t$

It was a funeral of one of her idols everyone that sung at that funeral was not at 100% it was emotional for everyone involved

    oh my
