Ready your questions for “MN, M.D.”! (Source: Shutterstock)

They say Google can be your worst enemy when you think something may be wrong medically, but there’s nothing wrong with consulting us! Make that our resident medical doctor, Mercy Edionwe, MD.

Dr. Edionwe is a physician who specializes in internal medicine in the great state of Texas. She earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch, and afterwards, completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Arizona in Tucson. During her free time, she loves to write and educate the public on medical issues, which is why she’s here on Madame Noire to answer all your burning health questions – you know those things you may be too embarrassed to ask your permanent physician in person or things Google can’t give you a definitive answer on.

As Black women, it’s important to get medical information from someone we can identify with, and Dr. Edionwe wants to talk openly about issues and diseases that we as a people need to discuss. That’s why she’ll be here on Madame Noire answering your questions each week.

To ask Dr. Edionwe a question, feel free to post responses in the comments section below or drop us a line in our Facebook inbox. If you’d like your questions to be more anonymous, just email us at and check back next week when our MN, M.D. column debuts!

Hello doctor,I have the worst cramps in the history of cramps when I’m on my period, over the counter me decline doesn’t cut it anymore. What do you recommend?

    • Lola

I’d really like to see the answer to this; because I’m tired of having to take 3 Aleves (at a time) just to get a bit of relief from these excruciating cramps.

Ill take Tylenol extra strength and it will only make me bleed clots out.

I know you were addressing this question for the doctor, but I have had this same issue (horrible cramps and vomiting) since I was a teenager and even prescription strength pain meds never worked for me. I would have to leave work/school and suffer for hours on hours at home. I eventually gave in and let my doctor put me on birth control which did work, but I got tired of the other side effects. After stopping the bc, I started drinking a herbal tea called “female toner” by traditional medicinals. It has worked absolute wonders for my cramps! I have been drinking this tea for over 3 years now and I can’t say enough about it. I would definitely recommend you give it a try. I wish someone had told me about it sooner.
