No, I Really Do Hate L.A. Dudes: Issa Rae Dishes On Her New ABC Series And Dating Men From L.A.

Back in October, we ecstatically reported that “Scandal” creator, Shonda Rhimes and “Awkward Black Girl” visionary, Issa Rae would be joining forces to create a new half-hour sitcom for ABC entitled, “I Hate L.A. Dudes”. In a recent interview with Sister 2 Sister, Issa opened up about the plot of the sitcom, how the show relates to her real life and why she can’t date men from Los Angeles. Check out what our girl had to say.

On the basis for the show:

“The show will center around people dating from L.A. and about a girl who isn’t from L.A. and her new experiences in L.A. So it’s really L.A. centered, but it’s really about the universal differences between men and women.”

On how much of the show is based on her real life:

“It’s only autobiographical in the sense that I do hate L.A. men, so sorry, y’all suck. But, I think that’s the extent of it. There will be some of my experiences sprinkled in here and there, but for the most part it’s just my worst nightmare of dating.”

On her beef with L.A. men:

“What isn’t wrong with L.A. men? A lot of L.A. men are very, very into themselves. They love fashion. They treat women horribly because a lot of women let them treat them horribly. There’s just a vicious cycle of L.A.-ness. You know, a lot of them still live at home, don’t have cars, are kind of superficial. At the end of the day, I still love them. I have a lot of L.A. male friends, but they gotta do better.”

Hilarious! It’s hard not to love Issa. She’s definitely earned the title of “friend in my head”. Don’t judge me, I bet you have a few of those, too.

Check out footage from Issa’s interview on the following page. Will you be watching  “I Hate L.A. Dudes” when it airs?

I’m from DC and lived in LA for 5 years…I had to move back to the east coast ASAP! You can sense the superficiality as soon as you step off the plane…it’s so thick you could cut it with a knife. It’s definitely not just white people either, the blacks, asians, latinos, everyone is superficial and phony. And the men? Yuck, ewww, no thanks. Now, Northern Cali…whole different story. The people are friendly, stylish, cultured – it feels a lot like the east coast, even the weather. San Francisco will always be one of my favorite cities.

  • Lovely One

Love you Issa…I will totally support the show!!!!!!

“You know, a lot of them still live at home, don’t have cars, are kind of superficial” umm…. msybe cause it’s expensive AS HELL to live in california? most adults i know live with their parents right now because apartments are like $1,600 a month to live in the damn hood! you either have to make a TON of money, or you have to get on government housing assistance.

this is why i want to move to another state. i don’t see any hope living on my own in california. the employment rate is horrible and the housing is just as bad. i love love LOVE issa but that was silly of her to say, she should know first hand since she has been in cali her whole life. smh

I moved to California from the south and live on my own with an apartment with a corporate but normal paying job….nice place and i mean NICE are only 1000 a month…..NOT IN ANYBODYS HOOD.

      • chanela

well good for you. you lucked out. why on earth are the only places i’m seeing $1,200 +? LOL

Wow u know u got to be a mess when all women out of state think the same thing about LA PEOPLE… Now don’t get me wrong like Issa said I have some amazing La Friends who I love til death. And I’m from the south so the values differ greatly across the board but dating!? *takes a breath and a drink* let me tell you something and everybody with an ear hear what I’m bout to say: these negroes is some of the BIGGEST D— fools I have ever dealt with in my life! I mean really!!! And the women bend over backwards (literally) to them no matter how bad and with NO RESPECT they are treated. I don’t care if they don’t have a pot to p-s in and a window to throw it out of. They want to act like they a d-m celebrity and treat women like they groupies! And the women accept it because they act like they have to be so thirsty to get a man out here… I’m not about that groupie or team player life. These dudes date every girl they see and will be with the one who act the thirstiest. Naw nah… And when someone tells them common sense dating rules like “don’t sleep with men on the first date” they act like u the Dali Lama!!! They are sooooo lost ….. I honestly doubt I will fal for a man that is originally from her just because they are use to dogging out they women so bad. Treat them like crap and wife the one who stayed with they mess the longest… And that’ll be when they about 50. Cus until then they want to stunt in the club. I hope they get some common sense out here one day… But that is highly unlikely.

Stfu… I am not from LA but maybe you should visit a spot in LA and try to check some folks out there and see what it gets you.. Stereotyping ppl from LA after you just left another post yapping about other ppls opinion.. Isn’t that book above your own?

          • Yeppers

Actually it’s my PERSONAL INTERACTION WITH PEOPLE FROM LA SINCE I LIVE HERE NOW… I see some of u people Ned to learn the difference. My personal experiences are more than just derogatory comments about people I don’t know.

  • I’m from New York. All I hear is stereotypes of how californian people behave. This should be quite interesting.

    • Ky

Lol, like what exactly? As a cali girl myself I’m curious about those stereotypes.

      • It’s hard to explain. But basically like the chicks on laguna beach and the hills. At first i thought it was only the white people but then i saw baldwin hills and they act the same way. Basically air heads

    • Don’t believe everything you hear. Thats only like 1% of california.

  • JaneDoe

    I am soooo curious…

I love Issa Rae! She kept it real without all of the negativity. The women in LA seem to be a trip, so I can only imagine how the dudes in LA act. I will Definitely be watching 🙂
