Make sure to explain your shipping terms and return policy.  And calculate your gross profit margin ratio. “Most people are on eBay looking for a deal so they generally want to spend less than they would in a regular store,” says Damore. “The best way to figure out how to best price your items is to look at other listings for similar or like items to see what they are selling for so you can price them competitively.”

Keep in mind the quality and age of an item. “If you are selling previously owned items, don’t price them close to what it would cost to buy it new,” she advises. “If you are selling new items and don’t want to lose too much on the value, you may want calculate the price to include free shipping. Give people an incentive to buy from you–Free shipping is always a good way to entice buyers.”

Don’t promise what you can’t deliver. “Set standards for your product quality and customer service and stick to them,” states Damore. “If you say you ship items out within 24 hours, then do it.”

Push your products with visuals, using great photos to lure in customers. Three to four pictures can be sufficient in some circumstances, whereas a dozen may be required to really highlight your stock. It is great to show the different angles of the item,” writes Forbes. “If you are selling clothing, put it on a mannequin to demonstrate fit and wearability. If the item is a luxury piece, it is critical to capture the serial number and reiterate it on the product description. Buyers will be knowledgeable enough to seek this piece of information to guarantee that it is authentic.”

Damore’s eBay experience was so successful, she’s expanded and has opened an online boutique called Chic Damore. “In just a few short months I was able to launch an online boutique with all new items in addition to continuing to sell on eBay,” she shares. “Ebay has given me a great platform to learn about what people are looking for, the true value of new and used items to bargain hunters and how to market yourself when nobody knows you.”
