We weren’t going to say anything but since Eurweb brought it up, we might as well go there.

TJ Holmes, host of BET’s “Don’t Sleep,” made a surprising appearance on MSNBC Saturday morning as he filled in for Alex Witt on “Weekends with Alex Witt.” He then reappeared in an afternoon shift making us wonder: What’s going on with his relationship at BET?

Now, there are a lot of ways we can go with this (and we might) but let’s just point out that TJ tried to clear up any notions that he was completely done with BET by tweeting:

“To clear this up: last “Don’t Sleep” episode of 2012 was last wk. Look forward to it in 2013. But, u can see me other places, like#MSNBC.”

So, we know “Don’t Sleep” isn’t coming to an end just yet. But we also know that  Holmes wasn’t exactly excited that the show went from a daily 30 minute show to a weekly one hour show.  That move may have been exactly what he needed to start exploring other options and “moonlighting” on MSNBC is not a bad place to start.  We all know the best relationships start with some sort of a “meeting.”

Holmes also tweeted in regards to his anchor seat position:

“Yes, I’m doing some moonlighting with my former NBC family. Sitting in for @alexwitt this weekend. More on Monday. #backintheanchorchair

So there’s news on Monday, huh?We eagerly await what TJ has to say, if anything, then.  The ratings over on BET aren’t great and it is possible that things just aren’t moving in the direction he thought they would.

We see you, TJ…make moves.

I hope it’s not over for TJ and bet we really need shows like Dont’t Sleep and Roland Martin (washington watch)

BET gives up so easliy…why not move the show up to an earlier slot as suggested and perhaps revamp/reformat it?

  • Reese

People that faithfully watch BET don’t watch the news or even care about the news.

I could not stay awake and watch Don’t Sleep, if I would have I would have probably slept at work, not being cute it is the truth. The show aired about 3 hours too late!

I didn’t even know TJ had a show on BET until one night I was up late. I loved his fine self on CNN, I wonder does he regret leaving CNN for BET. I never thought it was a good move.

  • Cleo

I was wondering why he left CNN in the first place, no one educated watches bet

I hope he dumps that koon channel for MSNBC, should have never went to BET (Black Exploitation Television) in the first damn place.

I don’t know why TJ Holmes even wasted his time with EBT network. Everything they touch turns to garbage. They know good and well this show will not last one day a week.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh dead @ EBT, I swear im dying

I saw him this morning subbing in for Alex Witt. He’s a great anchor and very well versed in politics so of course he isn’t doing well over at BET. Educating the public is not what the network wants to put their money behind. If he moves over to MSNBC, he’d do really well so I’m not too worried for him.

I knew he wouldn’t last on BET. They used to have quite a few beneficial shows such as Teen Summit and another one with Ed Gordon. They even got rid of the nightly news with Jacque Reid! Within the last 6-7 years, BET has become Deborah Lee’s domain of filth, garbage, and stupidity. Sad, but I am glad that TJ Holmes has left his options open. Good luck to him in his professional and personal life (think I read his wife is expecting).

He is too talented for BET. That station is for the younger generation, who only likes popcorn talents like Nicki Minaj, and Little Wayne. He should go to MSNBC for the truly educated viewers.

I was glad to see TJ Holmes on MSNBC. I could never locate his show on BET. I hope to see more of him. I am not sure what happened to the anchors of color at CNN but they all seemed to have jumped ship.

  • Dang

He has no choice. He tried to educate US, but since the majority of us wants to wants to watch ratchet tv his show isnt doing well. I knew after the first show it wouldn’t last cause it spoke the truth about politics and didn’t focus on 40 year old women who act like teenagers. This show was the onlly reason my tv was tuned into Bet.

EXACTLY! Well-said. BET also did a piss-poor job of promoting TJ and his show, and putting it in a time-slot that decent ADULTS with work schedules could adhere to. There was no buzz until shortly before the show aired: yet we’ve been hearing about Arsenio Hall’s return to TV since late summer and his show is not scheduled to start until next fall. TJ Holmes is more than competent and he tried to take his talents to BET; which is simply lost. As a journalist with major credentials and experience, I don’t blame him for going to MSNBC. Plus he has a pregnant wife–he needs a steady paycheck just like the rest of us.
