The last video we posted on the site by Mya was “Take Out The Trash,” the singer’s attempt at reggae (after she appeared on “Girls Dem Sugar” with Beenie Man back in 2000), and with its colorful yet extremely simple premise of Mya and friends dancing scantily clad as garbage women, it was kind of a mess. But for latest single, “Mr. Incredible,” off of her album K.I.S.S., she takes the title of her album into consideration and keeps it swexy and simple indeed. Decked out in a Foxy Brown fro of mass proportions, Mya tries to take it back to the old-school with her throwback look and all the vintage props and pieces, as well as eclectic and colorful clothing. She sets the mood right for her Mr. Incredible, hopping out of a bath, lighting candles, leaving rose petals on the bed and smoking a hookah while she waits for her boo–well, hookah’s don’t really set the mood, but you get what I mean.

For the actual song, Mya doesn’t disappoint. She lauds her man, though she knows he’s not perfect, because he does a wealth of great things for her–including putting it down in bed. Her light voice works good for the track and the beat is actually pretty awesome too. And while the song and video is supposed to be for the Mr. Incredibles out there, when Mya released the video recently, she dedicated it to her fans saying, “A gift to my fans. Thank you all for supporting the “K.I.S.S.” album in 2012.” I’m sure most of you didn’t know that she even dropped a new album recently (it was actually released in 2011), but it was independently put out there, so you know how that goes (a lack of promotion and very few videos to get people excited). But this jam I can actually do, and the video is hot as well! A little dark (no, literally), but I like it nonetheless. What about you?

She really looks like she could be from that era. Unfortunately, as much as I like Mya and I’m sure a younger generation is cool with no music in the background, I just can’t take looking at someone outfitted like that, singing with NO music in the background. When I picture singers of that era in my mind’s eye, it’s synonymous with a certain sound filled with music made by INSTRUMENTS played by MUSICIANS.

Enjoy this if you like, I’m not telling you not to but I’m ready for real singers, musicians, truly artists dressed in jeans and a t-shirt singing their behinds offs with voices that have character and can stand up to a BAND. i want to see bands again like Earth, Wind and Fire, and I want to see groups again. For sure, bands won’t stand there playing computers for music!
