Is it just me, or have you noticed it too? It seems like guys who are just okay (on paper) have the longest checklist of dating criteria when it comes to their ideal woman. And I’m not talking about men who may just be average-looking, but make up for their looks in other areas like career, sense of humor or an X-factor type swag. I’m talking about those who are just mediocre all the way around.

My girl Shannon just moved to New York from L.A. and had a housewarming party. I rolled out to her event solo, and when I arrived I didn’t know any of her other guests except for one of my girlfriends who was leaving to handle motherhood duties as I was arriving. Being the chatter box I am, especially after a few Sangrias; I mingled and made my way around her apartment, chalking it up with whichever stranger was closest.

Oh these types are all over my Twitter timeline. Always talking bout “my girl gotta keep her nails done at all times”, but their broke a**es sure won’t pay for it. Or, “my girl’s fashion game gotta be on point”, but their idea of fashion is a white tee, jeans and a snapback. Or my favorite, “my girl better know how to cook & clean”, but their behinds don’t even know how to check their car fluids or fix a flat tire.

    Please be seated.

I haven’t even read this article but the title speaks volumes about the culture today. Men see these rap videos and think just because unattractive, fake-rich rappers, flanked by beautiful women, espouse these traits/criteria that they, “average low-budget guy”, also deserves (and can get) this life too! Always thinking he can upgrade to a lighter, longer-haired dime, when he himself is a true buster scrapin’ nickels and dimes together for gas money and Dominos pizza.

    • Gigi

This explanation is the only thing that makes sense.

  • Sagittarius81

I can’t stand any man who wants a dime and they look like s#!t from head to toe! Yesterday, there was a Chief Keef looking guy try to holla at this beautiful woman with dreadlocks at the bus stop I was standing at and had the nerve to tell her “you would be a dime if your hair was relaxed and you have more trunk in the back” and the woman slapped him and told him “you look like Chief Keef rolled in a pile of s#!t!

    • Kaori

Is that what he said or you cleaned it up a bit?

      • Sagittarius81

I cleaned it up a teeny bit, but they were cussing a lot.

When Pres. Obama was elected in 2008, the catch phrase for brothers was “looking for my Michelle”. One dude had 4 children by 3 women and no education beyond HS; BooBoo, you ain’t Barack–you couldn’t handle a Michelle. Get yo’ life!!!

    • IllyPhilly

Dead, that made me think of that Boondocks episode “Huey it’s a Black president.”

  • Sagittarius81

I can’t stand men with high standards. I don’t have high standards when looking for a man, just glad my fiance accepts me for who I am inside and out. These type of men will end up like women with high standards: SINGLE FOR LIFE!

Anyone that needs a ton of work and has a list a mile long needs to look in the mirror. I saw this guy I knew in high school complaining to his boy about how none of the women he dated were good enough for him and i just knew he was perfect for this girl i knew who said all men were lazy good for nothing dogs. If they would get together it would save everyone else a lot of time and effort.

  • Kaori

How could one not notice this? I think this comes down to what is valued in women, what is valued in men, and how we are socialized.

Men can have high standards all they want to, but ultimately the type of woman who they can actually attract is a totally different story.

  • Stanley Dada

    Don’t worry!
These men are just following what women have been doing forever. Women have been having those PRINCE CHARMING lists that they never or will never actually date somebody that matches them, so men are trying to do the same.
You just don’t know how many men and women cannot be a good fit for their list but want a partner to be. This is ridiculous! They all have different standard for their potential partner than themselves.

I hollered just from readreading these couple of comments. I can’ t wait for those to come.

    • Ms. Kameria

      * reading*……my kindle is acting up

  • Say What?

I’m sooooo tired of limp d!ck, dusty @ss, garbage breath, no job having, child support dodging, pants that don’t ever seem to touch your waist wearing mofos thinking they’re a gift to everyone they approach.

    • Rasharne

      Dead!

    • MLS2698

      Whoa!

  • C’mon son

I have no sympathy for them. There are some dudes I’ve seen who will verbally rate women, numerically on a scale from 1 to 10, based on physical appearance alone. Then when they get burned because she’s all looks and not much else, they get mad when the nice woman isn’t interested in them. Go figure.

  • unrequitedlove

Mediocre dusty butt dudes just chap my a**. As a women they expect you to be perfect and well established meanwhile they live at home with mommy and they have bad credit & roaches

  • TRUTH IS

I call it top fashion when they are low budget!!
