There seems to be quite a bit of tension between Oakland native Keyshia Cole and radio station KMEL 106, as the singer recently took to her Twitter page to explain why she did not perform at the station’s Holiday House of Soul concert that took place this past Monday. It appears that there may have been some form of miscommunication between Keyshia and the station because she believed that she was the show’s headliner and pulled out when she learned that she wasn’t.

“EVERY F***ING YEAR I do something major for my city! @KMEL has the nerve to tell me at the last minute they want me to open for the Weeknd. Then @106kmel tells us at last minute if I don’t then there’s no show! Then still uses my name when I refuse! I feel so f-cking disrespected.”

“And now people in Oakland think I Flaked!!! #STRAIGHTBULLS**t! The only reason I’m speaking, don’t people thinking i flaked.”
“No disrespect to the weekend. Why the hell would @106KMEL ask me to open for him in My home town! Where I give back! Where IM FROM! #NO”

Now, TMZ is reporting that KMEL 106 has since responded to the singer’s claims and that they are surprised by her actions as she was never lead to believe she was the show’s headliner.

“We were surprised to see Keyshia Cole’s Tweets the night of our show … as she was never scheduled to be the show’s final act.”

They also expressed that it was not a big deal for them to replace Cole for someone else.

“When we were notified a week before her performance that she planned to cancel, we immediately removed her name from all advertising and promotion and offered refunds to those fans who requested.”

Keyshia’s spot in the show was filled by singer Jeremih. It is pretty apparent that Keyshia feels slighted by the shows lineup, not so much because she was opening, but because of who she was opening for. The station’s nonchalance about the situation and quickness to replace her probably only added insult to injury. But the show must go on, right?

What do you think of Keyshia’s response to not being the show’s final act? Should she have handled this more professionally?

Keyshia really needs to have several seats because sh but she does singe’s most def not the top r&b artist okay? I mean she aight but ummm to go off on the radio station because she’s not the opening act only shows how THIRSTY she really is and and I know several female singers who blow her out the water…Monica, Jill Scott, Angie Stone , Mary J. Blige, Marsha Ambrosius…granted Jill Scott is more of a poet but she still sings. The only place Keyshia Cole is an opening act is in her mind and we know that isn’t ther because she don’t even know she BLACK!! She needs to take her meds…ASAP LMMFAO

Her album sales may be low but she is a known artist and does have point. If she’s giving back to her community why would they have a known artist open for a no-name artist? That just doesn’t make sense. The known artist is usually the one that people buy tickets to see.

She found out the concert was titled “Holiday house of SOUL” concert and didn’t want to disrespect her supposed white half by performing for a soul venue so you know she gotta represent her possible father’s side too y’all so cut her a break will ya?
