Where Are They Now? The Cast Of Friends
Friends, one of the longest and most adored running sitcoms on TV aired for the first time 1994 and it ran strong for 10 years, with 238 episodes hitting the small screen. The show ended in 2004 but the cast still lives on in Hollywood, and crazily, they have all moved onto bigger and better things. Here are some updates on the Friends cast as of this year.
Jennifer Aniston played the role of Rachel Green which earned her Golden Globe, Emmy, and Screen Actors Guild Awards. Rachel was well known for her relationship with Ross Geller and was also notable for her ever-changing personality that went from spoiled to self-aware. Nowadays Jennifer Aniston is engaged to Justin Theroux and has played in several movies including Burning Love, Wanderlust, Marley& Me and He’s Just Not That Into You.
Courteney Cox played the role of Monica Geller, Ross’ sister, and quickly became the mother hen of all of the six friends. Monica was extremely competitive and obsessive, especially about being clean. She commonly talked about how she loved cleaning, labelled her cups, and sorted her towels into categories. After the show ended Courteney played roles in Zoom, Dirt, Scrubs, and most recently Private Practice and TallhotBlond. Now she’s the star of the sitcom “Cougar Town.”
Lisa Kudrow played the role of Phoebe Buffay who had a twin sister named Ursula Buffay on the show. Phoebe was the quirky, off-center comic relief of the show, but Lisa has since left the role of Phoebe behind and has had great success with her show Web Therapy.
Matt LeBlanc was Joey Tribbiani on the show, and kept true to his Italian American ways. He was often silly, promiscuous, and simple-minded, but was extremely protective and loyal to the rest of the group. He was even more protective of his stuffed penguin named Hugsy. Ironically enough Joey was an actor constantly on the look-out for work. Today Matt LeBlanc has a TV series entitled Episodes and he’s currently working on a role in the movie Lovesick.
Matthew Perry was Chandler Bing on the show and his character definitely had a crazy upbringing. His mom wrote erotica and his dad was a cross-dresser in Vegas. Thankfully, Matt’s real-life career hasn’t followed that cry scripted path, Matthew is most recently taking part in the show Go On as well as The Good Wife, and Mr. Sunshine.
Ross Geller, Monica Geller’s brother, played by David Schwimmer, was a paleontologist with a PhD who was quite geeky with witty and charming all at the same time. He had an unwaivering crush on Rachel Green and he often conflicted with Phoebe, but was best friends with Ross. The man behind that beloved character has moved on to have roles in John Carter and Nothing But the Truth. He also works on the TV series Web Therapy.
James Michael Tyler
James Michael Tyler played the role of Gunter, who managed the Central Perk coffee house that the friends often visited. He had an unrelenting crush on Rachel and his jealousy spilled out plenty of times. Nowadays James has had roles and appearances in several TV shows and movies including Episodes, Scrubs, and Keeping Up with the Downs.
Christina Pickles played the role of Judy Geller, Ross and Monica’s mom. Judy tends to favor Ross over Monica, and was often very condescending towards her. Christina’s role earned her a nomination for an Emmy Award and nowadays she has appeared in several TV shows including Animal Practice, How I Meet Your Mother, and Retired at 35.
Elliott Gould played the role of Jack Geller, Monica and Ross’ father. He was well known for his inappropriate statements and often followed them by the catch phrash “I’m just saying!” In more recent times, Elliott Gould has had several movie roles including those in Contagion, All I Want is Christmas, and Ocean’s Thirteen.
Maggie Wheeler played the role of Janice Litman Goralnick who is Chandler’s on and off girlfriend throughout the first four seasons of the show. The couple broke up often, but tended to get back together during the holidays, specifically New Year’s and Valentine’s Day. When an unsuspected death hits, Chandler hopes to get back together with Janice, but soon realizes she’s married and pregnant. The two eventually get back together, but only temporarily and for short periods of time. Maggie Wheeler now focuses on several different projects including Unsupervised, The Closer, and Archer.
Paul Rudd played the role of Mike Hannigan, who was Phoebe’s boyfriend and then husband. The two moveed in together after two odd dates and marriage was brought up very early on in the relationship. He crazily proposed to Phoebe at the same time that David did but she eventually Mike. Recently Paul Rudd has been chosen quite a bit on the big screen, having appeared in Knocked Up, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and 40 Year Old Virgin.
Jane Sibbett played the role of Carol Willick who was Ross’ ex-wife who turned out to be a lesbian. Carol eventually gave birth to Ross’ son, but decided that she will raise him with her partner, Susan. The couple eventually married by the end of the series. Jane Sibbett is most recently involved in several TV series including Out of Jimmy’s Head and What about Brian.
Tom Selleck, who appeared in 10 episodes, played the role of Dr. Richard Burke, who was an ophtalmologist as well as Jack Geller’s best friend. He dated Monica even though he was 21 years older than her but the two broke up after having different views regarding children. Nowadays Tom Selleck, who is now a veteran in the game, spends his time as a man character in Blue Bloods.
Aisha Tyler, who played Charlie Wheeler, was a minor role on the show and didn’t appear until 2003, though she was able to land nine appearances. She fell in love with Ross but instead hooked up with Joey. Later on in the season Charlie broke up with Joey to dates Ross but then left both of them to date an old flame. Nowadays Aisha Tyler has a role on Glee as well as on XIII:The Series.
