Fighting might not be a ratchet’s first plan of action; but please believe, she’s certainly not opposed to throwing a few ‘bows when it comes down to protecting her own. And if you’re a true friend, that includes you. With a ratchet friend, you never have to worry about getting completely jumped. Whatever pops off, your friend will be right there with her brass knuckles, throwing punches.

    No… as the saying goes, “You are who you be with.” No thanks, I’ll pass on alcohol and drug addicted deadbeat moms who want to fight men and act aggressive for no reason, can’t dress, are rude to wait-staff when we eat out, and overall are just embarrassing people.     I have a calm, reserved personality, along with a strong dislike for superficial friendships. So, someone who would be considered ‘ratchet’ would be no friend of mine.

    I don’t care about the streets or any lingo that is used on the streets.

      Just because they are ratchet does not mean the friendship is superficial. Also, being calm and reserved does not mean you wouldnt enjoy the company of someone so expressive as a ratchet. Those who would not consider the possibilty of being friends with someone unlike them, i believe, have a greater propensity to be superficial, such as yourself.

        Um, yes it does, because I am speaking from personal experience. And, it doesn’t make me superficial for knowing what type of personalities are better suited for mine and friendship.

      right. i’m a homebody and i don’t judge people as “ratchet”. i think it’s a classist term that snobby (read:insecure) people use.

    That’s the friend/associate, most ladies keep around to feel superior. Coming to the physical aid of a friend is not ratchet. The only “ratchet” people that are close have blood ties to me.

    Why yes I have a ratchet friend (She won’t consider herself ratchet though…). She keeps me entertained and I can always say “At least I am not as bad as …”

    All of this is so true. I left the hood but I couldnt leave some of my hood friends. Some are still a little hood, but most of us grew into respectful women together. We are blessed to have better lives now, but I know if it was ever needed, the ratchet would come out.
