I’m sure Terrence Howard and his ex-wife Michelle Ghent are breathing a bit easier knowing that they can enter into the new year free from bitter divorce proceedings. TMZ is reporting that on August 16th, the two were able to reach a settlement that split up their money and property in a manner that both parties were satisfied with.
If you recall, the couple got married in 2010 and Michelle filed for divorce in February of 2011 after she accused the actor of beating her and he pointed her out for being a racist. According to court documents, Howard expressed that Michelle frequently called him racial slurs like “n****r” and “monkey” and said hurtful comments about him and his kids such as, “[I] never wanted to marry a n****r in the first place and [I] definitely didn’t want to be the step mother of some n**ger kids.”
As if that isn’t crazy enough, Terrence even made claims that Ghent was trying to extort him with private recordings that she took off of his personal computer and that she had some Russian friends who wouldn’t mind knocking him off as a favor if he went to the police about it. Court documents also revealed that she is accused of attacking him on more than one occasion with a beer bottle after she accused him of dealing with other women.
This has got to be one of the most toxic marriages I’ve ever heard of and should certainly serve as a cautionary tale for those who romanticize the idea of jumping the broom with a person they barely know and blaming it on love. It is difficult to make a call on what actually went wrong in that marriage as both sides are making extreme claims about one another, but I suppose it is not up to us to make that call. We’re thankful that these two split up before they killed each other. And we’re sure Terrence’s girlfriend is happy he’s actually available now. So messy.
