Lord Have Mercy: Nicki Minaj’s Most Ridiculous Outbursts

December 5, 2012  |

Nicki Minaj isn’t a young lady who’ll ever be accused of keeping her feelings bottled up. Barbie has an attitude, with mouth and Twitter rep to match, and she isn’t about to tone it down anytime soon. So in honor of Nicki’s balls-to-the-wall, I-don’t-give-a-bleep approach, we salute her 15 most outrageous, most ridiculous, most heated outbursts.

1. Taking Aim At Lil’ Kim

Two over-the-top emcees. Too much attitude. We’ll give Minaj a little leeway here since Lil’ Kim was acting up as well, but that doesn’t diminish the foolishness of their back and forth beefing. Coded messages in both Kim and Minaj’s rhymes have only helped stoke the flames of this feud. But if that wasn’t bad enough, Barbie’s 2010 appearance with Angie Martinez on Hot 97 surely was. Barbie went in on the Queen B and didn’t hold anything back:

“[Kim] just really jumped out of the window and you got to be careful when you pick fights. That’s what I learned in this business. You just never know. I think people get me mistaken with like a real Barbie … they forget where I’m from. If I have to revert back I can, and I will. Don’t play with me. I respect you and love you. I’ve said it in every interview, time and time again. And if that’s not good enough for you mama, then it’s something deep rooted in you. Something is bothering you inside …”

“She picked a fight with Foxy, she picked a fight with Eve, then she picked a fight with Remy … Every time you’re in the news it’s cause you getting at somebody”

“Put your music out and when I see your name on Billboard that’s when I’ll respond to you. Other than that. Goodbye!”

Damn, girl, tell us how you really feel.

2. Beefing With MC

We could have seen this feud brewing a million miles away. Mariah Carey has been known for her share of diva antics, so when she and Minaj were tapped for American Idol duties it was only a matter of time before the claws came out. And come out they did on a video snagged by TMZ. Though it’s unclear what started the exchange, Minaj can be heard ranting and raving like a lunatic.

“So every time you patronize me, I’m going to take it back, and if you’ve got a f**king problem, handle it. I told them I’m not f**kin’ putting up with her f**king highness over there.”

Oh and let’s not forget she apparently threatened to shoot Mrs. Nick Cannon. Way to combat stereotypes. We have no idea where MC would get the impression that Nicki was a gangster with behavior as classy as that.

3. Nicki and Steven Butt Heads

And as if her stint on American Idol wasn’t enough of a disaster, Minaj and former judge Steven Tyler have had their own share of run-ins. The Aerosmith frontman criticized Minaj after word of the Mariah Carey feud spread. He then followed those comments up with a few jabs at Minaj’s ability to judge talent:

“You just have to give your opinion … These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they’re in New York City, they’re scared to death. If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips.”

Surprisingly, Barbie didn’t take the criticism well:

“You assume that I wouldn’t have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f**k yourself and worry about yourself babe.”

Easy, chief. Not sure Tyler meant it in that way, but that clearly didn’t stop Ms. Minaj.

4. Hot 97 Battle — Part I

DJ Peter Rosenberg is not a Nicki Minaj fan, to say the least. The Hot 97 personality had no qualms about putting Barbie on blast during this year’s Summer Jam, criticizing her music and saying that it didn’t count as real hip-hop. Not willing to go out like that, Minaj refused to take the stage as Lil’ Wayne pulled the plug on the YMCMB appearances. And if pissing off concert goers and organizers wasn’t severe enough of a punishment, Minaj went on to Hot 97 with Funkmaster Flex and served up some serious attitude. While there were a number of great daggers Minaj threw, our favorite had to have been:

“There isn’t a b***h alive — and when I say b***h I’m including men, because when they act like that they’re b****es — there isn’t a human being alive, that God has created on this planet earth, that could scare me out of doing a show. I get money. I get money.”

5. Hot 97 Battle — Part II

Just when you thought they had made amends, additional Hot 97-Nicki Minaj beefin’ arose. Recently, Hot 97 program director Ebro came out swinging on the Cipha Sounds and Rosenberg Show, saying that after he made some comments about how the original controversy with the station could have impacted sales of Pink Friday Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up, Minaj called and ripped him a new one. She demanded that Hot 97 not play her music anymore, which, if it was up to Rosenberg, would probably be a dream come true. But despite Minaj’s temper tantrum, Hot 97 still has her tracks in heavy rotation.

6. No, Not Barbara Walters!

Who has issues with Barbara Walters? Seriously. But, yes, our little Nicki got her undies in a bunch when Walters dared to weigh in on the Nicki Minaj-Mariah Carey drama. After calling Minaj unpredictable, Walters won herself a nice place at the top of Minaj’s s**t list. Taking to her Twitter, Minaj wrote:

“Barbara Walters didn’t reach out from our team barbz. I guess we’re too dangerous. Don’t shake if u don’t wannA get shook!!!! LmAooooooooooo.”

Walter’s reps say they did reach out to Barbie and the gang. Who do you believe?

7. Azealia Banks Beefin’

Twitter strikes again! Nicki Minaj and up-and-comer Azealia Banks got into it on the interwebs after Banks was forced to pull out as the opening act for Minaj’s European tour. Minaj then sent a tweet reading #ManTheseBitchesDelirious. Needless to say, that didn’t go over so well with Banks, who wasted no time firing back with a few insulting tweets of her own. Our personal favorite, a commentary on Minaj’s use of the English language: Did you mean… “delusional?” … Delirious was the wrong word. @NICKIMINAJ. Well played, Banks.

8. It’s Her Time?

Slightly different than her feud outbursts, Nicki Minaj’s documentary was chock full of some quality ridiculousness of its own. While fans were treated to an inside look into the mind of Barbie, they also got to witness just how off her pinked-out rocker she really is. A sampling of some of her best moments:

“So if I turn up to a photo shoot and you got a $50 clothes budget and some sliced pickles on a motherf**in’ board, you know what? No. I am gonna leave. Is that wrong? Wanting more for myself? Wanting people to treat me with respect? You know what? Next time, they know better. But had I accepted the pickle juice, I would be drinking pickle juice right now.

“Are you getting all my cranberries and almonds?”

“Don’t get it twisted. It’s not about money, it’s not about the fame. It’s about I don’t have to worry about if my little brother is gonna be able to get a new toy for Christmas. It’s those little tiny things that really make up the bigger picture. So, my happiness doesn’t come from money or fame. My happiness comes from seeing life without struggle.”

And obviously from a life full of cranberries and almonds.

9. Twitter Exit

Because Twitter had been such a bastion of civility and kindness for Nicki Minaj, we all keeled over in shock when she decided to delete her account. The result of Minaj’s frustration over a leaked song boiled over and she tweeted: “Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good f**king bye.” But of course, because the world will implode the second a celebrity stops inappropriately tweeting, Minaj hopped back on the social media site before her account was fully deleted.

10. Questionable Taste

She certainly likes to push the envelope and push she did during a performance at the 54th Grammy Awards. Debuting her single Roman Holiday, Minaj incorporated religious imagery such as exorcism, monks and a levitation scene into her performance. Needless to say that didn’t go over so well.

President of the Catholic League Bill Donohue issued a statement saying: “Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy. Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam.”

Ouch!

11. Mitt Is My Homeboy

Because election season wouldn’t be the same without some celebrity ridiculousness., Nicki Minaj decided to throw her two cents in by dropping a line on the track Dedication 4, saying “I’m a Republican, voting for Mitt Romney.” As the world desperately tried to keep their composure at the thought of Barbie being camp Mitt, she cleared up any confusion by throwing her support behind President Barack Obama and chalking up the line to creative license and sarcasm. Phew, that was a close one, what would America have done if this chick had gone Republican. Anarchy, we tell you!

12. I Like To Get On Your Nerves

Truer words have never been spoken. In an interview with Out magazine, Minaj finally addressed the backlash behind calling herself Barbie and, as usual, she was incredibly graceful and diplomatic in her response — not.

“So you can call yourself a female dog because that’s cool in our community. But if you call yourself a Barbie, that’s fake … Once I figure something is irritating people, I’m going to do it more,” she says, smiling, “because I like to get on your nerves until you realize how f**king stupid you are.”

Thanks, you’re so kind.

13. Rihanna and Nicki Get To Know Each Other

On the set of their music video for “Fly,” Minaj and fellow loveable hotmess Rihanna gave fans an inside look into their day with a few choice tweets, the most salacious of which was:

“Me and Nikki in our new crib, lol! Gettin busy on set of FLY!!! Its so hard to keep my hands off!”

Like clockwork, the “are they lesbians discussion” started. When those rumors were put to rest, several million men shed a single tear. Too good to be true, fellas.

14. Stupid H**

BET was far from #TeamNicki when the network got a load of the rapper’s video for the controversial song Stupid Ho**. The video was banned from BET for its lyrical content and risque images. Though Nicki didn’t seem to get her panties in a bunch about the ban, we’re going to say Stupid H** is certainly one of her more controversial, ridiculous outbursts. Girl’s got some talent, but that video was not doing her any favors.

15. The Remy Ma Fiasco

The rumor mill has constantly churned about Minaj’s sexuality, particularly when rumblings of an affair with rapper Remy Ma began to rear their head. But Minaj — and Ma — were quick to shoot those down.

“So now I was a d*ke dat dated remy ma n made a vid dressed as a boy?!?!?!? Lmaooooo U ppl r simple.”

Certainly has a way with words, doesn’t she?
