That Is My Movie! White Rom-Coms Black Folks Love

December 4th, 2012 - By Jazmine Denise Rogers

I’m a sucker for romantic comedies; battle of the sexes and chick flicks with all-Black casts are actually my weakness. But that doesn’t take away from my love for the same types of films with predominately White casts, which I find to be equally entertaining At the end of the day, love is love, regardless of race and I know I’m not the only one out there who loves Love Jones just as much as, say, The Notebook. Check out this list of popular rom-coms that have predominantly White casts but are on plenty of black folks’ “favorite move” lists.

  • De

Something Borrowed it is so underrated. That movie was excellence and relate able for ppl. Stars Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin. About love and friendship.

  • ctelle

I have seen all except one but I don’t love all these movies but maybe I am the exception.

The Notebook, need I say more? Lol. I can watch it a million times and it never gets old. I still cry at all the same parts as if I haven’t seen it before :)

And white worship continues. I wonder how many all blk casts can white folks tell you about? Because I’m sure they loved Soul Food, Jumping the Broom etc.

    • Cleo

I see where you coming from, but unfortunately white people run the media and our stories or films are not seen as important as theirs.

      • get real

Does that mean drool over their bs all white cast movies? Your attitude is why little blk kids can see a white doll and say its prettier and better then the one that looks like her.

  • Diam

I can’t be the only Black girl who loves When Harry Meets Sally.

    • Teri

      You’re not. That’s my Ish.

  • Guest89

I like most of these. The Notebook, Ghost, and Dirty Dancing aren’t romantic comedies though, more like drama/tear jerkers.
