So Shekinah Wants To Be White? Notable Moments From The Family Hustle

November 28, 2012  |

From Hello Beautiful

This week’s episode of “TI & Tiny: The Family Hustle” was nothing short of cute. It was time for Tiny’s right hand, Shekinah, to learn some etiquette tips if she was going to be on Tiny’s new talk show and around during her photo shoots. Shekinah wasn’t the only one this episode who needed a makeover. Major needed one as well! But Tip wasn’t concerned about Major’s etiquette just yet. The first thing on Tip’s list for Major’s makeover was his wardrobe, and if you’re apart of the Harris clan, you know that your “Swag” is extremely important!

Check out some of the highlights below:

Shekinah’s Etiquette, Or Lack Thereof

We all know that Shekinah is one that doesn’t hesitate to say what she is thinking. While on set for Tiny’s new talk show, she was placed on the spot an offered her own segment but completely let her mouth get ahead of her and bombed! Oh Shekinah! Tiny worried that her friend’s openness would hurt her image, especially with the talk show. She confided in Tip about wanting to hire an etiquette coach for Shekinah to teach her some manners and how to act in public. Tip joked that it would take weeks, months, maybe even years to teach Shekinah how to act polite but Tiny was up for the challenge. After all, if Shekinah was going to be rolling with her she needed to know to be professional!

She’s so annoying. That’s so annoying.

I think this show is funny, and I love the relationship between Tip and his kids. Every week is entertaining, and I can not get enough of Major. Someone made a reference about Honey Boo Boo, and they should definitely replace her and give Major his own show. I wasn’t able to see this full episode when it aired because I had to go into work at DISH. I’m bad with setting weekly timers, so instead I set my DISH Hopper to record the season. It is nice not having to remember every week to set a timer; plus there is over 400 hours of HD recording space to record this show, and my other favorite shows that air the same night. I can’t wait to get home and check this episode out and watch Tip give fashion advice to his kids.

  • Oh LAWD! Tiny is getting a talk show? So its gone be 60min of her practing how to speak with a mouth full of marbles? and who gone actually air it? BET? Watch it get yanked after 4 episodes…

“if you’re apart of the Harris clan, you know that your ‘Swag’ is extremely important!”
And that folks is what’s wrong with us. Far too many black people are far more concerned with how they dress than how they prepare for their future . It doesnt matter that you can barely read or write, but you have the newest Jordans on your feet! You spent half your paycheck on a designer [fill in the blank]. My people, my people.

Maybe it’s just me, but does anyone else think Tiny’s pose is inappropriate in front of the kids?

  • Is the title really necessary?

      not at all

Shekinah is a hot mess!!! I was so embarrassed for Tiny–the etiquette coach looked like every black stereotype she’d ever heard had just materialized before her eyes. Now let’s talk about Tiny’s show–I would have suggested she actually rid herself of played out Claudia Jordan–Shekinah’s sense of humor (assuming that she can be controlled) IMO would come across better to an audience. But since I never watched nor desired to watch The View-maybe I don’t understand the audience…but with those she chose…I will not be the audience.

The thing is, a lot of black people think talking proper & acting a certain way means you’re acting white. & actually believe talking “ghetto” means your wanting to be black. I remember on one blog someone said Honey Boo Boo & her family wanted to be black b/c they talked a certain way & used slang. i was like wtf?! lol People need to get out of that mentality that being a certain way belongs to 1 race. It doesn’t…but i like Shekinah tho, she’s funny

Regarding your Honey Boo Boo comment..have you ever heard the way they talk??? They sound like they have never missed an episode of Rupaul’s Drag Race and emulate the behavior of the queens on the show…which often resembles the behaviors of black women. I understood where you were going with your comment–the reference just kinda blew it.

      • Trisha_B

& how do black women act?! Since when did 1 race act only that way? That’s what i’m talking about smh

        • realadulttalk

You can feign naivete should you so desire–I refuse to ride the bus with you.

Tiny took her grown a$$ friend to obedience school…. And the comment about wanting to be white….. Smh…. #Setblackfolkback! I love the show, but Shekinah’s cooning is just stomach-turning and disappointing. She should be her comical self without degrading herself.
