Though critics would almost unanimously agree that Harlem Nights was a hot mess of a film, black folk absolutely love it. I personally, just saw it for the first time last night and I don’t understand what they missed. Sure it might not have been chock-full of Oscar worthy performances but it was a great story, hilarious dialogue between the characters and I’m sure you all have noticed that it was shot beautifully. It’s easily a cult classic. You know the movie, so let’s dig into the behind the scenes details.

    Harlem Nights is the s*** these square bears we call critics better recognize! The concept of Redd Foxx,Richard Pryor,Eddie Murphy, Della Reece,etc all in ONE film at ONCE is amazing

    #1 – When Quik returned from his ‘killer’ night with Dominique LaRue

    Sugar: ‘how was your date?’

    Quick: ‘I killed her’
    Sugar: ‘Oh..tore the pu$$y up huh?

    #2 – When Tommy Smalls (of Martin fame) got into trouble the guy who brought him in the gang got his hand smashed in the piano by Calhoun. Calhoun’s right hand man Joey didn’t seem to care much.

    Calhoun: Joey look at his hand is it broke?
    Joey: (Barely looking) Yeah boss…looks like ya busted it up pretty bad!
    LOL

    The only question I have with the movie is how they had Robin Harris and Charlie Murphy in a movie without them delivering any funny lines.

    Just watched this over the weekend!! First time watching it as an adult and man did I enjoy it now that I can understand it LOL
