In an unthinkable homicide case, a 13-year-old girl has been charged with the brutal murder her two-year-old half-sister.

According to NBC affiliate 11Alive News, DeKalb County police in metropolitan Atlanta charged the teenager as an adult on Tuesday. Investigators said the toddler, Sasha Lamaya Ray, died following multiple stab wounds.

Police said the 13-year-old, identified as Tyasia Jackson, was babysitting little Sasha and three other siblings while their parents were at work on Monday. At some point she called her parents to say she couldn’t find her sister.

So, her parents left a 13 year old alone with 4 siblings, all of which were younger than her? That many children is stressful for an adult, let alone a child who has not developed patience and coping mechanisms for that type of situation. It’s understandable when an older sibling has to assume responsibility some times, but it’s not fair to the child or her siblings to assume that much responsibility and bad situations are far more likely when they are forced to grow up too fast like this. A parent or adult needs to be in the house supervising children. I hope the family and the 13 year old are able to work through and learn from this tragedy.

While I agree a 13 year old may not be mature enough to handle watching many smaller children, SHE STABBED A 2 YEAR OLD. The child didn’t accidently drown because she wasnt watching closely. The kids didnt set a fire. The child didn’t wander off because the 13 year old sneaked away to see a friend when she should have been watching. There is a great chasm between a child not mature enough to babysit on her own and a child that will repeatedly stab a sibling, hide her body and call her parents to set up a lie about it. This child is very disturbed.

I’m sorry but there is absolutely nothing a child could do to me that would result in me stabbing them. These kids that are coming up today….let us keep them cloaked in prayer!!! My condolences to the family…truly a tragedy.

You have to remember it was a child herself that did the stabbing. I’m more concerned about another black child just being thrown away by the legal system. If this were a white girl she would have every child psychologist fighting for her.

She should not be charged as an adult but should definitely serve some time for what she did. Let’s also stop making Excuses for these out of control children. At 13 you are fully aware what’s frm right
