Are Beyonce´s Dance Moves Worth $100M? Game Company Says So, Files Lawsuit

Beyonce’s got moves, but she couldn’t shimmy her way out of this one. The 15-time Grammy award-winning singer is being sued for $100 million by video game company Gate Five for breach of contract. She had tried to get the lawsuit dismissed, but a judge has said no.

According to Gate Five, Beyonce broke a licensing contract in 2010 in which she was to develop a dance video game called “Starpower: Beyonce,” reports The Hollywood Reporter. Because she broke her contract, the video game company says they lost not only profits but 70 jobs.

A New York appellate court last week upheld a judge’s decision from December that the case should move forward. Beyonce and her lawyers argued in her appeal that she had a right to void her contract with Gate Five because the company hadn’t obtained sufficient financial commitment for the project, THR says. Not, so says Gate Five, who maintain that they already invested $6.7 million in the game and had arranged for $19.2 million in backing. They say Beyonce tried to renegotiate the deal and then dropped out.

Beyonce (who, BTW, earned $40 million last year according to Forbesprobably wants to avoid getting unwanted press. And Gate Five certainly doesn’t want to pay for a drawn out, expensive lawsuit. Most likely, the case will be settled out of court.

Beyonce hasn’t been having to much luck with the court system of late. Just a few weeks ago, she and Jay Z lost a case against a Boston company after trying unsuccessfully to trademark the name “Blue Ivy.” They now must share the name with the event planning business.

What dance moves? What does she do that is so awesome? I missed it. Pay them that money and come out with an album that doesn’t sound like the rest.

Um, yeah! Why didn’t they just sign her choreographer? Plus, all of her moves are the same. The only artist who ever admitted they can’t dance is Ne-yo; he said,” I have 5 moves, then I start all over again from #1.” And he ain’t never lied. I saw a clip of Mrs. B when she was about 10 years old……same hair whipping and similar body language. Yes, at 10-years-old. Do people know that Michael Jackson was taught the moonwalk by his choreographer? Yes! another artist who had FIVE moves!

    Trademark the name blue ivy?

yea because of who she and jay-z are people are quick to find a get rich quick scheme, and using blue ivy would have been gold for those people. If you were a celebrity of their status you’d want to protect your child’s name too, not to make profit but to make sure that someone else doesn’t make a profit off of your child’s name.

but the company was there b4 their kid. should they change bc of the carters?

I know right, and you would think they had enough common sense to know that you CAN NOT trademark something that is already owned or trademarked by someone else.

I never said anything about the company needing to change their name, if the company trademarked it first then that just sucks for Bey and Jay. I was just responding to IllyPhilly as to why they would want to trademark her name. Even though they don’t own the trademark at least they know no one else can try to profit from it.
