‘You Think You’re The Man’: Robert De Niro Calls Jay-Z Out For Being ‘Rude’ and ‘Disrespectful’

I guess drama isn’t limited to Z-list reality television stars. Page Six of the New York Post is reporting that tension rose between Jay-Z and actor Robet Di Nero at Leonardo DiCaprio’s birthday shindig a few nights ago. Witnesses are calling a heated exchange while a source from the De Niro camp describe it to the New York Post as “a low-key private conversation between two people that was apparently overheard. It was not a heated discussion.” Anyways, it seems that De Niro was upset because Jay-Z was supposed to be working on a song for the Tribeca Film Festival (they are both Tribeca residents), but when De Niro reached out to Jay to iron out the details, Jay pulled a disappearing act. A snitch at the party shares a first hand account of the story with Page Six.

“Bob wasn’t in any mood to make polite conversation,” the spy says. “He told Jay that if somebody calls you six times, you call them back. It doesn’t matter who you are, that is just rude.”

When Jay-Z tried to make a joke of it, saying he is terrible on the phone, a source says, “De Niro kept telling him that he thinks he’s the man, but that he was disrespectful.’ ”

It gets even more interesting. It seems that Beyonce noticed the exchange between the two men and made her way over to them hoping that Robert would calm down but it wasn’t happening. It goes without saying that a rift between two men of their stature and popularity was the highlight of the party.

“It was the talk of the party. Everyone was saying there’s only one star in New York bigger and badder than Jay-Z, and that’s Robert De Niro. He can be quite scary when he’s angry.”

De Niro is being a bit of a cry baby if you ask me. It reminds me of that scene from Mean Girls when Gretchen Weiner pressed her boyfriend at the Halloween party for not calling her the night before. Get over it Bob.

  • MN…I hope when you need a big story from a celebrity & when you arrive at the interview, they stand you & treat you like a minion…you stop being a cry baby….lol…respect is respect, even if God is on the line…

  • powpow

By their fans, I mean the fans of Grandpa Jay and Bleachyonce.

  • powpow

Now, he’s going to put a rhyme in a song talking about ‘Sorry De Niro, I should’ve called you back bro’ and stans will eat it up. So transparent and predictable yet their hoodrat fans still fall for it.

  • powpow

JayZ has managed to make both Obama and De Niro pawns in his media game, he should congratulate himself. He wants to be associated with older men of power since people are now saying he’s too old to rap. Stans will eat it up.

  • powpow

Publicity stunt on the part of JAYZ – I bet he’s the one that leaked the story. He’s setting people to look up to him even when he’s De Niro’s age.

  • Natalynn

At the end of the–who really cares? This is a personal matter between two adults and they can take care of themselves. I want to know when NYC is going to fix the Far Rockaway bridge the A train goes over so I don’t have to take shuttle buses until summer 2013! Where’s the snitch that’s gonna tell me that bit of hot gossip!?

  • Shanice

Do you call bill collectors or telemarketers back?
Hell, if they didn’t change their number so much, I’d never answer or return calls from my brother and his wife.

I didn’t read that Jay-Z signed a contract or got paid for anything.
And maybe since they are neighbors, Rob called the personal phone while Jay was busy, he did do a lot of big stuff this year.

  • PAK

    Typical ignorant rich negro attitude.

  • fenix

The assistant for Jay-Z should have returned the calls to DeNiro and gotten the particulars and handled it.

  • Shy

He should have had someone call him. Personal assistant maybe if he has such a hard time getting on the phone.

  • anonymous

yeah I would also be frustrated if I called someone 6 times-especially about something work related-and they didn’t call me back. That’s slack.

  • I don’t know if I believe this. I am sorry, this sounds like fodder. This is made up.

  • Robert DeNiro; handling stuff like a boss.

  • Who cares..someone was broke and they sold a story and added to it

  • Jay-Z was wrong on this one, it is rude not to call back after that many times.

  • RoseM

That is rude! At least make your assistant to call back smh

  • No1sname

Its a time & place for everything & a birthday party is not the time & place for a disagreement of any sort….Jay Z has a right to blow De Niro off!

  • Ummmmmmm DeNiro>Jigga any day. Jay is koo and all but even looking at this specific incidence… Be the business man you proclaim.

  • Man STFU… get off RD nuts… and get off Jay Z back… ya’ll don’t have a clue what happened.. Im soo sick of ppl talking about what they think the attitude of a person they never met is… some of ya’ll can’t even pick the right ppl in your own circle.. always worried bout how someone with money act… get yo paper up.. then you will know fr how they act…

    • In All Honesty

Thank you for being the voice of reason in a comment section that clearly lacks one. The only reason these women are even hating on Jay is because he’s a rich black man with high self-esteem. Some broads hate to see that.

      • Robert DeNiro is the guy these rappers watch on TV and tries to BE. How many times have you seen the saggy pants negroes try to be Scarface, the Godfather, Goodfellas, etc? Robert IS LEGEND. He is an icon to young hood boys, even though he was just playing his characters. Jay Z is mediocre at his best, but negroes just happy one of theirs have made it, so I understand. But Robert should be respected. The end.

        • In All Honesty

This is so sad. DeNiro’s not even in Jay’s tax bracket. It’s always the extra-average bw who call the bm multi-millionaires and international icons “average”. Trust that Jay did not go to DeNiro for help, DeNiro came to Jay.

          • It’s the other way around. RD got almost 30 years on Jay, plus royalties. You can’t be serious

            • Just Saying

Robert DeNiro’s net worth is 185 Million.. Jay-Z’s is 475 Million

  • Just saying!!

Bout time someone put the power hungry people in check!

  • ArabellaM

Luv em both. But, gotta side with De Niro on this one.

If someone calls you 6 times, you have someone get back to them. If it’s Robert De Niro, you call back personally.
Note to JZ; one of the nicest things about you is your “humility,” even with your great wealth and fame (I luv you and Bey). But, don’t lose that humility!.

  • Eggy

“Get over it Bob.” Huh? Am i missing something? Does your boss tell you to “get over it” when payday comes and he doesn’t deliver your check? I don’t think so. Jay signed up to do a project, and De Niro has to chase him down….. JayZ is too old and too established to not know how to conduct a clean business arrangement.

  • Madam Noire you are also acting ghetto asking a man to to get over 6 unreturned phone calls from a business partner. It’s not at though DeNiro was making booty calls. JayZ, please style up!

  • Chassie

    money won’t buy manners

  • Why is this important again…:-/

  • Ms_Sunshine9898

Well if that’s how it happened, I’m not suprised. Sometimes I get the impression that the Carters sometimes are arrogant and feel like they are above everyone else. . .

  • It’s rude not to return phone calls. Period!

  • Pammy

I think Mr. DeNiro is right. If you’re working on a project with someone – you’ve got to communicate. It’s rude not to return a phone call.

  • Come On Now Hov that is the man, the man with the acting skilling and tribeca, answer your call

  • keqi77

All of these comments off of hear say…How about we wait til somethig official is said before commenting.

  • sammi_lu

I can just picture DeNiro telling Jay-Z he thinks it’s disrespectful in his calm but menacing gangster movie kinda way.

    • Haha yes! Me too. I was thinking Jimmy from Goodfellas. De Niro is badass and Jay Z better recognize.

  • BeeCee

I’m glad someone checked Jay-Z. He and his wife think they are above all in my opinion!

  • get real

In true MN bed wench fashion you wenches diss the blk dudes while tongue kiss the white dudess bootyhole. Pathetic

  • candice fox

What is not being reported is that Jay verbally agreed and did this ish! There is no excuse for not reaching out and saying i wish not to move forward when you have asst, mgr etc. RD checked him and it was needed!

Didnt Jay bragged in his song that he lives next to DeNiro. Good for him!!!

  • Cleo

I never ever cared for jay z, but Robert DeNiro is a G.

    Love Robert DeNiro!!!

  • I don’t care. Robert DeNiro is the man.

    • Alexa

You better say that again! I love Robert Deniro. Jazmine, why is he considered a cry baby for calling out Jay-Z? It looks like jays head is getting too big. It’s rude of him to snub one of hollywoods most respected actors, especially if he was supposed to work on a project with/involving Mr. Deniro. He’s terrible on the phone???? I thought he was a business man?

    • psylocke_2001

      HE SURE IS!!!!

  • Sheena

I have ran into a guy that I contracted to do some work at an industry event. Contracted means that I paid him and he signed an agreement, sounds like the case here, and he did not deliver the work and had been indeed dodging my calls. I definitely did not “let it go” as I would have been a fool to call someone consistently about work and then ignore them when I see them only to begin calling them again in the morning to no avail.
