I guess drama isn’t limited to Z-list reality television stars. Page Six of the New York Post is reporting that tension rose between Jay-Z and actor Robet Di Nero at Leonardo DiCaprio’s birthday shindig a few nights ago. Witnesses are calling a heated exchange while a source from the De Niro camp describe it to the New York Post as “a low-key private conversation between two people that was apparently overheard. It was not a heated discussion.” Anyways, it seems that De Niro was upset because Jay-Z was supposed to be working on a song for the Tribeca Film Festival (they are both Tribeca residents), but when De Niro reached out to Jay to iron out the details, Jay pulled a disappearing act. A snitch at the party shares a first hand account of the story with Page Six.
“Bob wasn’t in any mood to make polite conversation,” the spy says. “He told Jay that if somebody calls you six times, you call them back. It doesn’t matter who you are, that is just rude.”
When Jay-Z tried to make a joke of it, saying he is terrible on the phone, a source says, “De Niro kept telling him that he thinks he’s the man, but that he was disrespectful.’ ”
It gets even more interesting. It seems that Beyonce noticed the exchange between the two men and made her way over to them hoping that Robert would calm down but it wasn’t happening. It goes without saying that a rift between two men of their stature and popularity was the highlight of the party.
“It was the talk of the party. Everyone was saying there’s only one star in New York bigger and badder than Jay-Z, and that’s Robert De Niro. He can be quite scary when he’s angry.”
De Niro is being a bit of a cry baby if you ask me. It reminds me of that scene from Mean Girls when Gretchen Weiner pressed her boyfriend at the Halloween party for not calling her the night before. Get over it Bob.
