Sticking with her reformation theme, Alicia Keys has released a new track from her upcoming album, Girl on Fire. Unlike the title track, this song is stripped down, with less screaming and more piano. Alicia wrote this song with British singer, Emeli Sande. Checking out the lyrics, the song seems like it’s going to be something of a woman’s anthem, akin to “Woman’s Worth.”
It’s been a while, I’m not who I was before
You look surprised, your words don’t burn me anymore
Been meaning to tell you, but I guess it’s clear to see
Don’t be mad, it’s just the brand new kind of me
Can’t be bad, I found a brand new kind of free
Keys told Boom Box the song is about personal growth and learning to accept it.
“Brand New Me’ is about the journey it takes to get to a place where you are proud to be a new you,” Keys tells The BoomBox. “There is nothing wrong with growing. There may be people in your life that knew you for a long time and they think of you only as the person you used to be and not the person you now are.”
You can take a listen to the ballad below.
So, what do you think about the song? Do you plan on checking out the rest of the album when it comes out on November 27th?
