Style To Steal Or Girl, Stop: Halle Berry, Rihanna, Soul Train Awards Fashions & More!
Another week, but a lot more fashionistas with fly and forgettable fashions for you to see and pick apart. From Halle rocking velveteen in Berlin to Melanie Fiona looking retro in a lace minidress in Vegas, these ladies were very colorful and stylish this week. But whose look do you love and which do you loathe? Let’s go through and see…
The stunning 46-year-old showed up to the Berlin premiere of her movie, Cloud Atlas, looking half her age in this velveteen dress with a side split, intricate draping and two different arms (one capped, one strapless). To accessorize, Halle wore strappy gray heels with silver cuffs and bangles, a large cocktail ring, as well as drop earrings with a fish bone design. The hair was in her signature pixie and the eyes were darkened to make her look pop.
Halle does it again! This look is very alluring yet sophisticated, and with that body and that hair, she’s killing the game. Steal!
For the 16th Annual ACE Awards in NYC this week, actress Tika Sumpter stepped out in a very polished printed black and white gown. Pulled in at the waist and with a boatneck neckline, she looked like a princess. She accessorized with a silver clutch, a funky swooped bang and a bright red lip.
The face is looking great, and Tika’s hair isn’t bad either. As for the dress, I’m not in love with it because I think it makes her look a lot older than she really is (32). Especially since the only thing it really shows off is her neck and her arms. Love her, but I’m just okay with this ensemble, however, that’s good enough for a steal, right?
Arriving at the taping of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in NYC, Rihanna came looking like one of the models in this very interesting look. With a cropped v-neck box top in a satin black paired with a stark ivory high-waisted skirt that crinkled from the hips down, all by Miu Miu, she definitely had the cameras flashing on the pink carpet. To accessorize, she paired strapped pointed-toe gray heels (LOVE) with her look, and a simple necklace.
I’m not in love with the skirt, but I like the ensemble as a whole. The high skirt with the barely there midriff showing top was pretty genius. And while I still can’t stand this hairdo, I think her wine-colored lip and old Hollywood glam bang are very cute. Steal it!
For FOX’s ‘The X Factor’ Finalists Party in Beverly Hills, Adrienne Bailon arrived on the purple carpet in this color-block body-con dress that mixed black and camel brown and kept her warm with its long sleeves. On her feet were brown pumps, and to accessorize further, she toted around a black square clutch, crystal earrings and a red lip that matched her nails.
You know what…for Hollywood style, I’m not feeling this look on her. Adrienne tends to show up to a lot of events looking more trendy than chic because she goes with what the mags say is in–body-cons, and the same red lip on every carpet. However, if we’re talking about a fit for everyday women, this look is very cute. I just think she needs to take more risks (not with her cooca showing again though) and try something different. She’s very predictable at times. A reluctant steal for me…
Singer Rita Ora was seen outside of the ITV studios in London back on her Matrix s**t with her long black raincoat (with a floral lining), leather (or pleather) form-fitting dress, knee-high boots rolled over said knee, and some straight hair for once. Or make that lightly curled. Her accessories were still pretty funky at times, as she threw on purple shades, a blue beaded necklace, a bunch of rings, her usual gold watch and bracelets, and in addition, a snake bracelet.
While I’m loving the change in hair, and the outfit really isn’t bad, again, what’s with the accessories? Sticking with gold would have been good, but it’s like she took out every piece of jewelry in her possession and threw it on with such a sassy outfit. And on a side note, I probably wouldn’t have paired these particular boots with this dress, but I see what she was trying to go for. I won’t fault her for trying to switch it up, but leave that snake bracelet, that necklace and about seven of those rings at home next time. Steal.
Actress Ashley Madeweke showed up at Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne looking to turn heads. She showcased this Camilla and Marc dress with a ruffled neckline, and a funky textured and tiered skirt in a light powder blue. To accessorize, she threw on some adorable turquoise heels with ties around the ankle, put on a gold cuff and bangle, some diamond studs and an ornate hair clip.
LOVE IT! The dress is very different and I’m loving how elaborate the tiered skirt is. Plus, the hair is bangin’, her skin is just a-glowing, and the makeup is juuuuuust right. Great job Ashley. Steal!
The 2012 Soul Train Awards in Vegas took place this week, and the black stars came out in their
Sunday best. Melanie Fiona hit the red carpet in a long-sleeved lace minidress that was sheer, put on open-toe gladiator sandal heels, accessorized with gold and leather bracelets, gold necklaces, gold hoops (with a cross dangling from them), a few rings and an alligator-print clutch. While I love the makeup (not the hair) and Mel’s body looks great in the dress, I must say that her ensemble is a bit dated. The dress and earrings look a bit ’90s and the shoes remind me of the gladiator trend from like 5-7 years ago, but I don’t think she looks bad. For that reason, I’ll let it pass as a steal. Nice dress, but next time, rethink the accessories.
Well, look who came out of nowhere trying to be glamorous! The rapper and “America’s Best Dance Crew” judge showed off a strapless black gown with a long flowing skirt and bow details on the chest. To match her blonde hair, she took along a gold sparkly clutch and put on gold chandelier earrings. Her hair was in an updo that reminded me of a loofah, and faced the cameras with a light pink lip. I have to give it to her, this is probably the nicest I’ve seen Lil Mama look…ever. While her makeup is a little too light for her skin and the blonde is a bit dramatic for my taste, she looks pretty good. I wouldn’t wear it, but I like it on her. Steal!
British songstress Marsha Ambrosius arrived to the show in a more laid back look than most. She paired a black leather skirt and black see-through top with a sparkly gold baseball jacket with leather sleeves. On her feet were peep-toe patent leather pumps, and she threw on a gold chain link bracelet with a red lip and big curls.
While it’s not a terrible look, it’s a bit dull for the red carpet. The shoes with the look are boring, the jacket kind of clashes (maybe a funky blazer instead would have worked better), and she even looks awkward in it (peep how she’s standing, she’s not giving me “WORK!”). Still love her music, but stop.
“Vampire Diaries” star Katerina Graham also showed up for the show taping wearing an asymmetrical gown with a fierce slit up the thigh and covered in sequin floral prints. On her feet were black pointed toe strapped stilettos, and for accessories, she threw a ring on damn near every finger, tried to rock gold hoops with fake bullets, and her head was looking very Diana Ross-esque. While Graham is gorgeous, this whole look is an absolute mess. From the hair to the dress looking oh so ’90s and the confusing array of accessories, I just can’t do it. Thanks, but no thanks. Stop.
All in all, the hottest look to me this week has to be Halle’s ensemble. It was oh so flattering on her figure, and from the material to the color, she gets a 10 out of 10. But of course, that’s just my opinion. Which looks are your favorites and which ones were flops to you? Let us know below!
