When it comes to fashion, a tall, handsome, physically fit man can probably get away with wearing just about anything. And then there are those who fall into the category of everyone else outside of Boris Kodjoe or Idris Elba. Put those dudes in a Speedo, a Hawaiian print shirt or high water pants and we’d still swoon. But most men aren’t built that way, yet some fellas try to pull of fashion trends that simply don’t work for them. Just because Weezy can rock jeggings doesn’t mean other men should try to – so if you’re over 25, here are 5 things you men should never wear…unless you’re a devastatingly handsome model or a rap/rock star.

i loathe men and boys at any age who wear the one pant leg up style. I can’t believe some people still wear their pants/sweat suits/jogging pants like that in 2012. I saw a man maybe 47 or older doing this and he was wearing a jersey and a du-rag/wave cape (as someone mentioned. i loathe is saggy pants with or without a belt, earrings especially in both ears, gold teeth, colored contacts, white socks showing, braids/dreds, skinny jeans/slim jeans, gauchos lmbo as someone mentioned and all while talking in slang. I have to be totally honest, I have seen really nice neat and clean dreds that are twisted into a style but now I’m just sick of it.

I agree with everything on that list twice!! Don’t make no sense for a grown azz man to be wearing cornrows.

  • Cherie Amore

Uh, “taco meat”? “Chest hair” would have sufficed just fine. SHM

  • IllyPhilly

Nuh uh cuz I found my man when he was in cornrolls, flip-flops, skinny jeans, and gaudy 2 chains just like he found me and three sizes too small pants wit my butt crack showing, a two-toned weave, and hula hoops for earrings. LOL. When are y’all gonna do the ladies edition of this?

    • MLS2698

Nuh Uh! You gots to be lying!

      • IllyPhilly

LMAO! yes, but it’s gotta be somebody’s real story

  • Shirl

Gold teeth, gold teeth and gold teeth!!!! I cannot stress this enough. Come to think of it NOONE, I repeat NOONE at any age should have gold teeth.

  • bluekissess

Now where is the list of things women shouldn’t wear? That. Men’s list was on point

    • Kay

It’s been done a whole lot of times

  • dee

You also forgot those so called shorts men wear which are really gauchos because they are ten sizes two big and go all the way down to the just above the ankles….actually I think those are really called wide leg pants in the fashion world but ask a man and they are shorts. Yeah right. Shorts are “short”, pants are long.

    • Kiyoko Kayo Hisoka

Yes. I can’t stand to see men wearing those shorts that hit the ankle.

  • Miss D

I’m surprised no one mentioned COLORED CONTACTS! It was all the rage when I was in school and for some reason, has not yet phased out! I cannot stand to see anyone sporting a fake eye color, looking like a black cat.

    • IllyPhilly

OMG!!! Bwhahahaha. I hated that too!! Because the contact colors were always really bizarre.

    • http://twitter.com/Nerdstradamas Kendra

Awe man, I remember this dude I knew turned around to speak to me, I was so shocked by his starry eyed blue contacts that I laughed out loud. Lawd…

  • chanela

i still don’t get what’s so bad about braids.lol i’ve never liked men with long hair (it’s too feminine to me) but ever since i started getting on black blogs like 2 or 3 years ago i’ve noticed a phenomenal hatred for men with braids… i think i missed a memo somewhere.lol

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/SYNZLAE7TVZXQT3JCSIIPLC26A David

What’s wrong with us having braids after 25? Are dreads also wrong after 25? It’s ,ore of an Afrocentric style. Our white washed society looks down on Black men with dreads or braids. It doesn’t seem “right” because many have been brainwashed into believing straight hair or any other Western styles should be accepted. I would never wear skinny jeans. So we should only have a fade to look professional?

    • Kay

Everything’s wrong with grown asss men with braids that don’t reach the back of their neck. Braids and dreads are two completely different things. Dreads are acceptable, braids that look like Boris kojoe in Diary of a Mad Black Woman make you look like a damn fool and that has nothing to do with being ” white washed” it’s the pure truth.

      • Kay

Shamar Moore, not Boris kodjoe. My bad

    • Kiyoko Kayo Hisoka

I’ve noticed that there is a certain mindset that men who wear braids after 21 seem to have.

  • Candacey Doris

I’m going to disagree with the braids and the tighty whiteys. I like braids on a man. And i don’t want to be told what kind of underwear i have to wear so i’ not going to tel a man what he should wear. Though i am partial to boxer briefs.

    • chanela

i kinda agree with you! imagine if men said on a blog that women should only be wearing booty floss, or else get ta steppin!

    • Kiyoko Kayo Hisoka

There is just something not right about hearing a man say to a woman, “You gone come over and braid my hair?” or “I need a ‘female’ to braid my sh@t!”.

      • Candacey Doris

I agree with that. Go to a hairdresser or learn to do it yourself! I haven’t braided a man’s hair since my brothers gave that up when i was a teen.

      • chanela

i heard that in jail the dudes braid hair…. that image of them sitting between another inmate’s legs getting braided up is killing me softly. LMAO

      • http://www.yourtango.com/users/cheekee-baby cheekee baby

        Agree

  • Guest

Cant stand to see a grown man wearing braids, baggy pants, skinny jeans, do rags (in public), socks and house shoes (in public), or huge stud earrings.

  • Trisha_B

I can’t stand braids on a man past the age of like 15! lol. Its a no no…I don’t like socks w/ sandals unless it’s the Adidas or Nike slip ons, & they running an errand or something. but as an outfit, nope! When it comes to jewelry i don’t mind it as long as it’s not some big, flashy, wanna be rapper piece of jewelry. Maybe it’s b/c i’m Jamaican lol, but i don’t mind a simple chain, ring, and/or bracelet…& i don’t like skinny jeans on men or boys.

    • Kiyoko Kayo Hisoka

      A fifteen-year-old male isn’t a man anyway.

  • Pinkrunner

Oh, and let us not forget wave caps. Gentlemen, please do not wear them outdoors, especially under your fitted hats. It does not make you look cute.

    • Y. Marie

YES! Wave caps and du-rags in public, ESPECIALLY with the du-rag flap all hanging out the back like a damn head cape…GTFOH! And it’s even worse to see a man who hasn’t had a haircut in months trying to squeeze one over his afro…STOP IT!!!

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Muthapukkin-Tinney/100001244269956 Anthony Muthapukkin Tinney

Hey don`t say nothing `bout my du-rags now. lmao.

      • chanela

        i can’t at cape. LMAO

        super negro!!lol

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Muthapukkin-Tinney/100001244269956 Anthony Muthapukkin Tinney

      I need my du-rag.I have a funny-shaped head.

    • IllyPhilly

Where they still do that at???

  • Madame with a K

I DISAGREE with the tighty whities – if a man still has a nice body then by all means wear them…much more of a turn on than boxer briefs BUT like I said….only if the man has the body. No man overweight should sport the tighty whitie look – EVER.

    • Nenah

I think if a man wants to wear tighty whities he can. I know I don’t want no man telling me what kind of underwear to wear.

  • get real

I agree with everything except the braids. I understand what your saying but braids can traced back to Egyptians. I embrace any and everything African. I was at Kohl’s this past weekend shopping and all the jeans said “skinny” “slim” “straight legged’. And I was like where are the jeans for men? I don’t know how they do it in your city but here in Memphis dudes buy these slim and skinny jeans then sag them. And I ain’t with that. How can you not feel like a woman squeezing into and wiggling off skin tight jeans??? FOH with that bs.

    • Kiyoko Kayo Hisoka

Braids just do not look good on adult men.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Muthapukkin-Tinney/100001244269956 Anthony Muthapukkin Tinney

I saw a young guy at the store a few days ago, with sagging skinny jeans. He looked like he had dumped a load in his drawles.lmao.

    • chanela

ANY and EVERYTHING african? what about female circumcision? just askin

      • ProKidHustle

        Checkmate!

  • Fantastic2u

Women hair weaves should be on your list. And that should be number one on your list.

  • The good names are taken

I don’t like to see men with both of their ears pierced. It just doesn’t sit right with me. Then- a lot of guys are wearing cz or rhinestones…? I especially don’t like when people pierce their baby boy’s ears. The kid didn’t ask for that! You mean to tell me that you looked at your little man child and said, “Here is my little man whom I adore. One day he will be a pillar in the community. He will be strong and smart. My little warrior will one day protect our family from all threats but first- let us take him to the mall to get his ears pierced then we’ll pick him up another pair of sparkly, shimmering earrings from the beauty supply store.”?

    • Kiyoko Kayo Hisoka

Why are people even assigning manhood to baby boys anyway? I very rarely hear people say about their daughter, “That’s my little woman!” or refer to their daughter as a ‘woman child’.

    • Guest

So true about the cubic zirconium and rhinestone comment. I have a pair of diamond stud earrings which my father bought for me and a guy who claimed he liked me asked if he can borrow them. I told that dirty piece of shyt don’t ever talk to me again. It took everything in me not to spit in his face. How dare a fvcking man ask a female if he can borrow her jewelry?! That piece of shyt should be buying me jewelry not asking for it.

    • Drew Smith

      They’re just earrings, babe. Seriously.

      • Guest

You sound like a man who would do something like that. Also my earrings cost nearly $4000. Yes I know you would never spend money like that on a woman but my dad got it like that. Loser!!!

        • Drew Smith

Proving your “worth” by mentioning how much your dad spent on your earrings? “Really, Guest?” That’s pathetic, at best. I’m not a betting man, but I’d be willing to toss a few ducats in the pot to say that, while your pops may have spent some good money on your earrings (that you KEEP mentioning), he sure as hell didn’t invest a dime in your higher — or, otherwise — education. Proceed with refuting my claim by providing examples of additional monies being spent on you, but failing to actually write anything having to due with your education.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Muthapukkin-Tinney/100001244269956 Anthony Muthapukkin Tinney

Her father obviously didn`t invest in a little thing called CLASS either. And spitting in someones face would`ve gotten her an artis hughes` uppercut.

      • Guest

Ladies beware of men like Drew Smith. He would steal your expensive diamond and gold jewelry and pawn them out and you would never hear from him again. I may be young but I am not stupid nor do I fvck with broke men because my dad spoils the hell out of me!! The guy I was talking to put up a front and pretended to be something he was not that why I was gonna spit in his face.

        • Drew Smith

You’re not just young; you’re also very stupid, and you prove it by continuing to actually write the things you think. Stop — while you’re way behind…

    • Allie

      Ha LOVE your name

    • my turn my turn

can’t even comment much. lying flat on my face!

  • Eady123

I see nothing wrong with a man havig braids.

    • Guest

Boooooo!!! Men should not be wearing braids! Be professional.

      • chanela

hmmm funny, a lot of people think black women should have straight hair in order to be professional…….

  • Y. Marie

Grown men with braids is such a huge turn-off for me. I know a man in his 40s still rocking braids! Granted his hair line isn’t receding and his hair is really long and silky (he’s Filipino) that doesn’t excuse the fact that he’s over 40 and still requesting for someone to go all Mario “Braid My Hair” on him…cut it out!

    • Nenah

Ewwwww, I think it’s bad enough when black guys have braids, but when I see other race grown arse men with braids I really smdh.

    • my turn my turn

that’s nothing compared to this man at church wearing a large stud and about 65yrs old!

  • http://www.facebook.com/adrian.leavelle Adrian LeaVelle

There should def be a post like this for women. Number one being: shaving any part of your head is ugly, distasteful, and just a shame.

    • Kiyoko Kayo Hisoka

This is a woman’s site. You don’t think that post has been done already?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tiffanie-MadameGigglez-Thomas/665285721 Tiffanie MadameGigglez Thomas

but why is that? i HAD to shave my head for surgery… so what is your point?

  • glad-b

    1. Jewellery – only a watch is acceptable, nothing else!

    2. Skinny Jeans – leave something for the imagination! Hey…thats just me…

    • Kay

      *jewelry

      • MeMe

Pet peeve: people who correct others, but have no idea what they’re talking about.

It’s spelled jewellery in many parts of the world. American spelling is not the be-all and end-all.

        • Kay

I honestly could give a damn about your pet peeves.

          • hey you!

This should read “I honestly couldn’t give a damn about your pet peeves.” If we are going to be technical about grammar. Hahaha!

            • Kay

I guess you feel as though you’ve acomplished something?

          • che

Pet peeve: People who don’t give a damn about others pet peeves after MeMe made them look stupid. You seriously just got owned.

            • Kay

I would give a fuckk but that would take too much energy

    • Cinnamon71

@ Glad-B, I agree w/you on the jewelry thing 100%…Also, I think the only time they should have a ring on is when they are engaged/married.

  • ANTMilf

You forgot sagging pants, I should not be seeing any man’s underwear and their booty sticking out like they “want some” from another man in the streets. Also, the skinny jeans shouldn’t be for man for ANY AGE!

    • chanela

my friend’s son wanted some skinny jeans SO bad that she went to the girl’s section of target and got him some girl’s jeans. he was happy as hell!

      • ANTMilf

Then I don’t know what to say about your friend’s son. If I had a son and he wanted skinny jeans, I’m sending the exorcist on him.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tiffanie-MadameGigglez-Thomas/665285721 Tiffanie MadameGigglez Thomas

I still get confused when i see a guy with braids today… and NO ONE should wear socks and sandals… thats just goofy!

    • MLS2698

I’m going on a cruise in May 2013, and I plan on wearing flip-flops with ankle socks if it gets cold on board. Yup, gonna have some wild colors too; so everybody sees. Burrito buffet, here I come! My idea of living on the wild side! Oh, I forgot about my cowgirl hat…..that too!

    • Nenah

The socks and sandals I think of old men. They get a pass because they’re old. Braids I just think he’s a thug.
