Everybody Thinks You Hate Yourself And 6 Other Relaxed Girl Problems

Natural Shade

I can’t tell you how many times someone has asked me if I’m natural and when I said no, I get the “ohh” with the boo boo face. You know the, “oh, she’s ashamed to be black, ol’ boughie nappy-head hating beyotch” look naturals give you? People will ask you to defend your choice to chemically straighten your hair like a university professor will demand you defend a thesis, and then suddenly you’re the outsider.

I mean I guess it’s sort of payback time for women with natural hair for being criticized for their hairstyles before but if there was any time a #DontJudge hashtag was necessary, it would be now.

The natural nazis are hilarious to me, like why do YOU care what I do to MY hair lol
Do you all also eat exclusively organic? If not, there’s also a ton of chemicals that you are putting into your body.

  • kb

I keep hearing about Natural nazis not sure they exist. I’ve never told anyone how they should wear their hair nor have heard anyone else say it. I think permed chicks have a somewhat guilty conscience, so maybe when naturals are talking about hair they feel like we are looking down on them. It’s the same way as when a friend says I love black men, and the one who is dating the white guy feels a little awkward.

OMG DA GIRL ON THE “BEACH” IS MEEEEE, CAN’T BELIEV IT!!!!!!!!!!<3

  • LATOYA

I’m natural I LOVE IT. I DONT THINK BAD OF WOMEN WHO GET RELAXERS. I DO THINK ITS A SHAME THAT BLACK WOMEN KEEP BUYING THAT FAKE HAIR FROM THE CHINESE FOLKS AND PUTTING THE ASIAN KIDS THREW COLLEGE WTH THE AMOUNT OF WEAVE THEY BUY.

  • CeCe

Right ur not better than me. Its not some big statement u have to make for the whole race. Its about time, the style I personally like and wut looks best on my head. Do wut works best for u but don’t u dare judge me..

  • Tamz

I’ve been natural for well over a decade, loc’d for 2.5 years. You do whatever works for you, I used to relax my hair with Revlon Super and my hair wouldn’t take. Yeah, I have VERY coarse hair. But just because someone chooses to relax their hair, I’d never equate them with having the desire to be white, they just want to look good. When my daughter gets old enough, we’ll talk about what she wants to do with her hair.

  • Tonia Smith

There seems to be a growing consensus that there are a gang of naturals out there hating on
relaxed ladies. When I was relaxed I had no naturals harassing me and now that I am natural I harass no one. Is it really that bad out there where people are confronted about there hair choices or is it chic to use the term “Natural Nazis”

    • jade

i attempted to go natural but found that the time it takes to keep it up was too much for me. when i told my cousin i was getting a relaxer she called me a sellout. so yeah, we do get judged!

      • get real

I mean do you women even give frogs fat behind as to what you are doing to your hair and scalp? I saw a coke can get dropped into the main ingredient in perms and it dissolved the coke can. I mean seriously ladies?? “Natural Nazis” may just think you guys are stupid.

        • Nenah

I just call you a baldheaded biotch whose hair wouldn’t grow so she had to go natural to finally feel what it was like to have hair.

        • lol.

i saw that..but that was in sodium hydroxide [lye]. Pretty sure there are no-lye relaxers available

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000113041547 LaShannon Hunny Badger Davis

Ummmm…it was STRAIGHT lye and it took a long time to dissolve the can. Relaxers are not STRAIGHT lye and no one keeps them on THAT long. Stop letting that obvious scare tactic move ya. That’s like not using bleach to clean because of the toxic fumes…

          • OpenlyNatural

long term bleach usage does harm you though…..and look up pictures of relaxer burns…i’ve gotten them and I didn’t even fully relax, I texturized. It depends on the person/scalp

& Nenah…you’re just a moron, many people who go natural already had hair when relaxed like me, use youtube once in a while.

        • Des

Do eat exclusively organic as well? Just curious because the way many foods and beverages are made in this country also contain chemicals that may be viewed as unhealthy for one’s body.

    • Nenah

People shouldn’t be confronting anyone about their hair. My body, my choice. So the term natural nazi is fitting.

  • get real

That’s right ladies “forget u natural nazis I’m going to continue to fry my hair, scalp and brain until there’s nothing left”.

    • Smilely

Please take the chains off Sister, – knowledge is not only key….it’s Power.

  • NoScrunchie

I wonder though why we don’t take our salons up on this habit of keeping us in the salon all day. We all know it doesn’t take that long. If you did one person’s hair first and then moved to the next person, it would be waaay faster. I am taking this fight on, leaving the natural v relaxer one.

I surveyed people on my blog and this is one of the things that women hate the most!

    • Tamz

My loctician gives her clients a 2 hour max, depending on what they are getting done to their hair. If it’s going to take longer, she works with them and if she takes too long, she takes $5 off their hair.

Honey, you should see her lil skinny fingers working….lol

      • http://www.noscrunchie.blogspot.co.uk/ NoScrunchie

I wish all hair stylists did this. I would have back so many Saturdays of my life.

  • ANTMilf

Last time I relaxed my hair was 7 years ago, even before I went natural I loved myself. I never let my hair define my self-esteem, I care more about my daughter and my health than what my hair looks like.

  • Nenah

I was natural and I relaxed. It took too much time. I give it to the chicks who spend days twisting their hair and hour long detangle sessions, but that was not for me!

  • Trisha_B

For the new growth problem, try this new thing from Dark & Lovely 6 week Anti-Reversion Serum. I got a free sample from their facebook page & used it & my relaxer stretched! I don’t have to get relaxers that often, maybe every 4-6 months & that serum extended my time. But everybody been having mixed reviews about it

    • Saffy

Maybe your hair just grows very slowly, but I’m thinking, if you can go six months between relaxers, do you need one at all? If I tried going six months, I’d have three inches of new growth and so much breakage at the relaxed v. unrelaxed line that it wouldn’t be funny; I can go three months max, and even that is pushing it.

      • Trisha_B

It’s more so my edges & kitchen lol. I get a lot of new growth but my hair is soft. So it flat irons w/ ease & it’ll last for about 2 weeks. My friend does my hair & she tells me to stop getting a relaxer b/c i don’t need it. But i like for my edges to lay lol

Actually the chlorine in pools strips your hair of the chemical. Something about the two chemicals. *shrugs*. I hate when your hair is too bone straight right after the perm.

    • psylocke_2001

Ugh Me and you both Kayla! I hate that bone straight, limp, lifeless look. My hair always looks it’s best about 2 weeks after the touch up.

    • Allie

Same here! Sometimes I won’t even sleep with a wrap just to give my hair some extra volume

  • justsayin

I’m natural and love it. It works for me. But i still believe your hair your rules. imma need some of these nazi naturalist to fall back.

  • gmarie

lol I definitely remember the days of me and my cousins coming in straight from the pool and basically standing in a line waiting to have our hair washed. I never associated it with having a “perm” as we called it or a relaxer. I just always thought it would dry and break your hair of fin general which is partially true. It’s a good practice for anyone tbh. Chlorine can do some serious hurt to your tresses.

    • KJ23

When I was younger my mother used to make put conditioner on our hair and then put a swimming cap over it to protect it and then we’d rinse it out after swimming lessons. I’m not too sure if it worked, but it became the norm.

  • thatonegirl

I’m not relaxed but I feel for you. These natural nazis be going in for no reason. It’s not that serious.

    • Cleo

So true I feel people should do whatever they want with their hair, when I had a relaxer I certainly did NOT want to be white.

  • IllyPhilly

Thank You!!! It’s just a preference, why don’t some people get that? I like my s3xy dark skin, big ole butt, and Mr. Miracle!!!

    • Sandy

I think you mean Dr. Miracle.

      • IllyPhilly

Dead!! I know imma change it
