These folks still refuse to learn from past hazing incidents. HBCUs please stop the hazing. We want to attract quality students to get them to consider coming to a HBCU. You are working overtime to run potential students away. Let me also be clear, mainstream schools haze as well. But sadly, they don’t get the kind of impact that HBCUs do. Just like this FAMU incident, they are some blacks out there are already turned off by coming to an HBCU. They put all of them in a basket. But a mainstream school hazing, if it ever gets reported, we don’t have NOT one problem attending there and give them our money with a smile on our face. Please support HBCUs financially no amount is too small every little bit helps. They need the funds. Thank you.

I love my alma mater but damn. They need to stop. For real.

  • Wow

Why in the he!! would someone go through a pledging process to join a professional sorority or fraternity? I’ve only seen this nonsense at hbcu’s of people who couldn’t join social frats and sororities going through a pledging process to join a professional organization. Im not the sorority type so i don’t get why anyone would want a bunch of chicks whooping their a$$ and then by virtue of some Greek letters they are all of a sudden sisters. I didn’t pledge in college b/c the only letters I would have ended up wearing would have been INMATE and I don’t believe in sisterhood simply because of association, it’s forced and mostly fake.

Hazing happens at White Universities as well. You don’t hear about them.

      • Wow

I know it happens amongst the social frats at all types of schools but rarely do I ever hear that you have to go through a pledging/hazing process to join what is essentially supposed to be a professional organization such as phi beta lambda a professional org for business students that has no pledging process or eliminations, as long as you pay your dues and are active you are considered a member. But I remember in college where business students were “on line” pledging to join what is an automatic membership organization, they had t-shirts with their line names and I believe they had a call and a step routine but it was all so unnecessary and turned off more students than it’s mission which was supposed to attract.

“I didn’t pledge in college b/c the only letters I would have ended up wearing would have been INMATE”

Lmao!!!! I’m with you, I am not the sorority type either.

I will never understand the point of hazing, coupled with the point of sororities and Frats, imma need a member to explain to me what this org, has done for you because with all the horror stories i hear, i have yet to see the purpose of these organizations

shoot, i have actual sisters who care for me without “initiating” me in some fashion

Totally agree. Why does a person have to be humiliated in order to be accepted into a “brotherhood” or “sisterhood”?

    • sabrina

Totes with you. I made some close and potentially lifelong friends all on my own! (for free too!) I was never bout that hazing life.
