SAD: Pregnant Woman Stabbed To Death The Night Before Her Wedding

October 21st, 2012 - By Marissa Ellis

It was a very sad Saturday for the Brooklyn family who discovered Vindalee Smith, a woman eight months pregnant with her fifth child, dead in her apartment. According to AP:

Smith, 38, was found on the floor of her apartment in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn with a gaping wound in her neck. It wasn’t clear how long she’d been dead before the body was discovered by her landlord. Her unborn child did not survive.

There was no sign of forced entry, and no weapon was recovered, police said. Investigators are looking for a possible suspect. They interviewed her friends and family, and spoke to her fiance.

Although the case is currently being investigated, I’ve seen enough Law & Order episodes to know that the primary suspect in murders of this nature is usually the significant other. Pregnant women often trigger desperate acts of violence from men who “snap” and realize they don’t want a future with the woman in question.  The fact that there was no forced entry may also lead investigators to question close family members and friends. There’s no explanation that will bring justice to this death of this mother of four, but hopefully, the case can be resolved swiftly.

I dont get this site …. report news and stop. You adding your two cents is not needed. You could start something to ruin her boyfriend/husbands to be life. Who cares about what you watch on law and order. IT could have been a jealous ex of his or hers, stalker, friend that went crazy. In Houston a beautiful girl was stabbed to death. It was not her boyfriend it was her boyfriends cousin … he said he was jealous of the life they were living cause he did not have it. He was jealous he killed a pregnant woman. Madame Noire seriously this was tacky only report what you know not what you speculate. You need to hire real writers. This site is getting more like bossip. Trashy.

This is a sad story. Another family without a mother. Smh the nerve of of someone to decide someones fate. My prayers go out to her family. Especially the children. S/n how irresponsible (and messy) of the writer to insinuate something so major without facts. I know blogs are about opinions but at some point respect is more important. Where is the professionalism?

  • Native_Noir

This is just too much to bare. I’m not understanding how its so easy to just take someone’s life. Where I live we just had a mass shooting today at a spa. 7 wounded, 4 dead including the gunman who killed himself at his wifes job. This is ridiculous. Killing innocent people because you are upset! Is that how we handle conflict nowadays?! My prayers go out to ALL these victims family members and friends. I could only imagine the fear that goes through someone knowing they are about to be harmed. RIP away from this cruel world.

      *typo
      4 wounded

Now this was thumb downed for what? Funny…

I’m glad you’re okay, the media’s influence has turned more and more violent and with this dumbed down society, the world is going straight to hell. My neighbor’s daughter just got jumped at school, the little girls videotaped it and tried to submit it to world star hip hop; they are 12! 12 freaking years old!!!!!!!!! Wtf? This is so sad.

      • Native_Noir

Thanks Meyaka. And yes, these babies are coming up thinking violence is okay and should be showcased. So sad. My heart hurts for all theses families. Protect yourself, yes. Murder because things don’t go your way, HELL no!

“I’m not understanding how its so easy to just take someone’s life.” – You would only understand if you’ve ever killed someone.

“Killing innocent people because you are upset! Is that how we handle conflict nowadays?!” – Unfortunately, increasingly so.

      • Native_Noir

You’re absolutely right. I’m glad I’m not built to just go around taking lives. I work across the street from where the mass shooting happened and the media presence and choppers flying above makes me sick to my stomach knowing the reason they are here. This just shouldn’t be….I’m at a loss for words. Please everyone, enjoy your lives, you just never know when it could end.

Rest in peace, and my condoleances to her family

This is really a sad event. The person who did this has no heart and clearly has no respect for life.. the children have lost their MOTHER and they took not only one life but two.. I hope they find the person responsible for this right away. I’ll be praying for the children and I hope a good family member will keep them all together.

The fact that half the article is the author’s opinion sorta discredits this site. It may be a little insensitive to accuse her significant other of being responsible when he has not been identified by the police as a suspect. This man was about to get married. I’m sure he is going through alot right now. Along with her children.

    • Naomi

Significant doesn’t have to be her husband to be

    • Miss Anonymous

Yes it is but that is usually how it goes. They have to first question the victims close family (ie husband/boyfriend/fiance or parents). Usually the ones closest to the victim.

    • Jelly

Why is the author speculating on who committed the crime. Just report the dang story. Also, statistics on pregnant women being murdered by their significant others would given more credibility to the author’s assertions. I just can’t take this site seriously. Too many want to be authors with no journalistic training.

      • Kayo Halana Malie

“Why is the author speculating on who committed the crime.” – Eh, people do all the time.

No need for statistics when it is a well known fact that violence against pregnant women is usually committed by a boyfriend or spouse.

        • Sheena

No need for statistics if you are updating your FB status, but as a journalist on a public news feed statistics are more than important and actual relevant facts. Not, I watch too much TV remember this time on Law and Order….I just commented on another article that was actually good but the grammatic mistakes were so huge I could hardly get through the article. again, this is fine if you are a Twitter journalist but writing as a professional this is unacceptable.

        • Sha

I think we confuse bloggers with journalist – two totally different professions with different morals and obligations to the subjects of their stories. It seems that they would take a clue from their comments but it is consistently the same on a lot of hot topics. May be it is there way of keeping on-line traffic to their site. Hate it is like that but please write responsibly. We, the audience will appreciate it!!

      • Cassie

Jelly, I have to agree. They do more “what if it were this or I speculate or She meant to say this” they write like a messy gossipy person. How dare you say cause you watched enough Law and Order you speculate, girl this is a human life on a public forum you are talking about, have some respect. They did not say who the main suspect was. I completely agree Jelly report a story and stop. Moguldom is rachet city. Bossip is with them … you cannot expect much. I am deleting this site from my favorites. I will not longer visit. Its too trashy. Too many open letters. Like celebs give a damn about you writing them. Go to Clutch magazine I enjoy them more.

  • Erica

I heard this on the news last night only to come to Brooklyn this morning and find out its a block from where I live. So Sad.

  • bluekissess

This is to much. My thoughts & prayers are with this family. Hopefully she gets the justice she needs. I just get tired of individuals taking lives like it’s there responsibility to.
