It was a very sad Saturday for the Brooklyn family who discovered Vindalee Smith, a woman eight months pregnant with her fifth child, dead in her apartment. According to AP:
Smith, 38, was found on the floor of her apartment in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn with a gaping wound in her neck. It wasn’t clear how long she’d been dead before the body was discovered by her landlord. Her unborn child did not survive.
There was no sign of forced entry, and no weapon was recovered, police said. Investigators are looking for a possible suspect. They interviewed her friends and family, and spoke to her fiance.
Although the case is currently being investigated, I’ve seen enough Law & Order episodes to know that the primary suspect in murders of this nature is usually the significant other. Pregnant women often trigger desperate acts of violence from men who “snap” and realize they don’t want a future with the woman in question. The fact that there was no forced entry may also lead investigators to question close family members and friends. There’s no explanation that will bring justice to this death of this mother of four, but hopefully, the case can be resolved swiftly.
