He’s Not Off The Hook Yet: Jon Stewart Doesn’t Let Obama Live His First Debate Performance Down

October 19th, 2012 - By MN Editor

Barack Obama made his sixth appearance on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Thursday, and the conversation ranged from topics of great importance – the president’s response to Libya – to slightly more whimsical issues — Joe Biden’s bathing suit.

But Jon Stewart kicked off the interview by playfully jabbing Obama over his lackluster performance at the first debate with Mitt Romney. Explaining that he’s working on his campaign scrapbook, Stewart pulled out two post debate photos and asked the president if he could identify which was from the first meetup and which was from the second. The choice was fairly clear.

President Obama took the joke in stride, and, in fact, cracked several jokes about his “sleepy” performance later that evening at the annual Al Smith Dinner. Remarking on being judged the winner at the second debate, he explained he had been well-rested because of the “nice long nap I had at the first debate.”

Love Jon Stewart!!!! The interview with our President was priceless. Good to see a POTUS with a sense of humor.

Because of this election I’ve really started to try to keep up with what’s going on politically and I really enjoy watching Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, and Bill Maher not just because I can get a good laugh, but through comedy they make everything make sense without the political vocabulary you usually get from watching Fox News and MSNBC. For someone like me who is just starting try to get a grasp of politics and what’s going on, it helps when things are just said plainly. And I’m glad I have a president who understands that if you want to reach an audience that you normally wouldn’t reach from being on political news shows you need step outside. Conservatives are quick to put the president down for showing up on late night shows,The View, or SNL even, but maybe if they would take notes and do the same they could probably come off less stuck up.

I watched this and it was funny to see him getting questioned about it. Stewart asked the question we were all thinking “what happened?”. And he joke around, owned up to it and answered questions. He actually talked about his plans for the future, which is not easy to get Romney to do, it’s lie pulling teeth with that man.
