Some girls dream about that special sacred union since they’re very small; hopeful that one day they’ll be clad in a long white gown, adorned with jewels and flowers, and surrounded by a plethora of family and friends . This ceremony is hoped to be beautiful and magical, and the love between the two who are marrying is supposed to last forever.

Maybe.

One thing that Hollywood has made abundantly clear is that marriage is not meant for eternity, in fact, some marriages are over before the credits, on a feature length film, can roll.

Michael Jackson & Lisa Marie Presley: 18 Months

Eighteen years ago, The King of Pop and The Princess of Rock & Roll united in one of the most iconic and short-lived marriages in Pop history. No more than twenty days after divorcing her former husband, Danny Keough, Presley married Jackson in a secret 15-minute ceremony in the Dominican Republican city of La Vega. The couple initially denied the marriage, but eventually shared their relationship with the public, Presley appearing in Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone” music video, and the couple shared a famously uncomfortable onstage kiss at the MTV awards. Eighteen months into the experience, Presley filed for a divorce due to the fact that Jackson was pressuring her to have children, his odd personality quirks (i.e. wearing make-up 24/7) and the rippling effects of child molestation allegations.

Mike Tyson & Robin Givens: 8 Months

The former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson met actress and knock-out beauty Robin Givens during the spring of 1987, and they married just over a year after first meeting. Perhaps doomed from the very beginning, the famously tumultuous relationship was riddled with anger, violence, deceit, adultery and money-squandering. Following an interview with Barbara Walters, where Givens stated that life with Tyson was a living hell, Tyson supposedly chased Givens, her mother and her mother’s publicist through a hotel lobby in a drunken rage. Even this was followed by a squabble at their expensive New Jersey mansion, Robin Givens fled to Los Angeles, where she later began divorce proceedings.

During the fall of ’84, an 18 year old Janet Jackson married R&B /soul singer James Debarge, eloping. The two quickly divorced because of Debarge’s issues with narcotics. Though the details of the marriage were kept under wraps, according to tabloids, the two may have produced a secret love child.

R. Kelly and Aaliyah: 90 Days

Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number wasn’t just an album title but apparently a philosophy for the young up-and-coming R&B artist Aaliyah Haughton. At the tender age of 15, Haughton engaged in an illegal marriage with mentor/producer/singer/songwriter R. Kelly in the fall of 1994. The short marriage was annulled by Haughton’s parents during the beginning of 1995. During the entire stint of their marriage and thereafter they denied marriage allegations…though VIBE Magazine later revealed their marriage certificate.

The Dream and Christina Milian: 90 Days

Ninety days into their marriage, after what seemed like a modern hip-hop fairy tale, Christina Milian and The-Dream divorced. The two married in a quickie Las Vegas wedding, followed by a second ceremony, an intimate and lavish affair in Rome. While married, the two conceived their daughter, Violet. Milian was served divorce papers just days before giving birth to her daughter.

Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries: 72 Days

Easily one of the most publicized weddings this decade was that of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphris. The multi-million dollar, two part E! Special televised spectacular, entitled, “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event” was seen by 5 million viewers. Though the marriage was over before the couple hit the three month mark, technically the two are still married because they’re struggling with difficult divorce proceedings.

Chad Ochocinco & Evelyn Lozada: 41 Days

Married on the Fourth of July of this year in nearly televised ceremony, Chad Ochocindo and Evelyn wedded in the Caribbean on the island of St. Maarten. But a few short weeks into their marriage, the two were fighting over Ochocinco’s purchase of condoms, Ochocinco head butted Lozada. Lozada called the police, Ochocinco was arrested and Lozada immediately filed for divorce. Since, Ochocino has lost his place with the New England Patriots, and the anticipated reality series, Ev and Ocho was subsequently canceled.

New Year’s Day of 2008, Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds held a non-binding commitment ceremony in Bora Bora.
