So Laura Govan And Gilbert Arenas Are Already Married?

I can’t keep up with the Govan sisters and their secret, pretend, maybe marriages.

At the end of last month, a marriage certificate popped up with Gloria Govan and Matt Barnes’ names on it while they were simultaneously featured in Rolling Out magazine saying they weren’t ready to take that step yet. Now her sister Laura is claiming to already be married to her longtime fiance Gilbert Arenas–sort of.

In an Q&A with Celebuzz, the interviewer casually referred to Gilbert as Laura’s husband and she didn’t bat an eye, or manage to correct him, when she answered his question. Oddly though, the same interviewer then asked her when the two were going to get hitched, considering they’ve been together for 12 years. That’s when Laura said:

“We actually kinda got married. We did the whole, ‘I do. I do,’ we just haven’t had a wedding,”

Then she added:

“When the time is right… We’re just not in a hurry to go spend $2 million. That’s what my price range is. My ring is worth $1 million, so I had to double the wedding.”

Raise your hand if you’re confused. I can’t tell if Laura is saying she and Gilbert went down to the courthouse and did the dang thang or if they were just chilling around the house one day and made some sort of verbal commitment to each other. Also, I’m thinking if Gilbert had $1 million to drop on an engagement/wedding ring, coming up with $2 million for a wedding shouldn’t be a problem. I can’t help but wonder if that’s the real hold-up. Something about the way Laura talks and answers questions just makes her seem disingenuine. I can’t even tell if she and Gilbert are still together after he eased up on that gag order he had out on her, much less whether they’re married. Maybe something will be revealed on this season of “Basketball Wives LA.”

Do you think Laura and Gilbert are really married?

Not to mention–I don’t think it looks good. She looks scary to me–she was much better looking before she touched her face.

  • Faith

Wasn’t this the same guy who put her out of the house when she was pregnant and he moved to Washington with one of his buddies? These folks just need to sit down. I don’t know why people want to continue to watch reality television.

Common law is still recognize right here in South Carolina. A man will never shack up with me and I will never shack up with a man. I have seen the mess in court of a common law marriage in Sc, and the judges have no pity.

If its true, I say you better go y’all!!! A marriage is a union between two people, you don’t need a grandiose ceremony to prove the haters wrong. There is nothing better than having someone counseling you about your relationship, when you know everything is a-okay.

They’ve been playing house so long most states would consider them common-law husband and wife. At this point who cares.

    • Nycole

Most states no longer consider common law after 1997. So, they are not married she is jusr settling. But that’s her life. Good Luck with that girl.

Yes. I wish people would stop using that backwoods phrase of ” common law ” marriage, when most states don’t recognize it. In my state, cohabitation is illegal, so it would be nothing but lies to claim a husband without a license/certificate. And since when did applying for a marriage license mean anything? They usually expire if there is no official ceremony within 30 days. This L.A. cast is so……….L.A. fake!

        • tia ramsey

Cohabitation is illegal in what state? How can that possibly be enforced?

          • Canitha S.

In the state of Florida it is illegal to shack up.

Several states still have Common Law marriages:
Common law marriage is recognized only in the following states:Alabama
        District of Columbia
        Georgia (if created before 1/1/97)
        Idaho (if created before 1/1/96)
New Hampshire (for inheritance purposes only)
        Ohio (if created before 10/10/91)
        Rhode Island
        South Carolina

You are mistaken. There is no such thing as common law. We have laws in place dealing with marriage/divorce. Laura is a jackass baby factor trying to remain a gold digger.
