Keyshia Cole On Love In JET: “I Think Our Black Men Are Afraid To Love Publicly”

Keyshia Cole is still all roses and sunshine when it comes to her honey Daniel “Boobie” Gibson. The loving couple and proud parents are on the cover of JET magazine this week with their little man and they dished on everything they love about each other. When the mag asked Keysh what she loves about Daniel, she said:

“He has a beautiful spirit. And he’s not afraid to love publicly. I think our Black men are afraid to love publicly, and I’m not a fan of that.”

Of course JET had to know what it is about Keyshia that makes Daniel so open to loving her like he does. He told them:

“Keyshia’s been through a lot with her mother and her family; so her whole make up is built around being a strong woman.  I’m just trying to show her that I can be there for her.”

In their interview, JET delves into the drug epidemic that led to Keyshia’s rough past and explores how she left the drama behind in the pursuit of happiness. The October 8 issue is on newsstands now. Keyshia fans get your fix!

What do you think about what Keyshia said about black men being afraid to love publicly? Do you agree?

It’s an ego thing especially with ballers and entertainers. They love attention and to be viewed as a family man or good mate to some makes them look weak.they would rather parade around some video chick or stripper cause in their mind that makes them feel like yeah look what I can pull.

Am I the only person who thinks she looks horrible?

    • Hello_Kitty81

Nope, saw the cover at Target this past Friday and this is why I hate blonde hair.

I wish them all the best. I do not agree with that statement. there are some men out there that don’t mind showing their love. All black men can’t be put in this category. And i won’t try and speak for all of them.

I agree! But its all in WHO you choose…In whatever it is that women are looking for, they have to choose wisely instead of settling for ANYTHING just to have somebody to post fb pics of!

keycoco gthoh – what is she talking about? I have been in a serious relationship with 3 black men, and none had a problem loving publicly. In fact, they were the ones always rushing to cement me as their official girlfriend, and introducing me to the family, being affectionate etc.I am not going to listen to a girl who stalked Jeezy in her past tell me about black men. It’s nice she has her rock, and they have a healthy baby, but please don’t place all black men in one category. Also, am I the only one that had a problem with her husband’s quote
Keyshia’s been through a lot with her mother and her family; so her whole make up is built around being a strong woman. I’m just trying to show her that I can be there for her.”

why is he still trying after all these years , does she not already know he can be there?

3 out of millions!! She isn’t saying ALL black men but yes Black men do show love MORE privately than publicly and that’s a FACT

He is committed and that’s love…….it’s working for them……

  • ieshapatterson

well good for her.i hope everything goes well for the family.she’s been through a lot.

I’m sure for some this is true but depends on who WE choose…I am affectionate so have always been able to find affectionate men, if they aren’t then we don’t mesh and I move on. But all the relationships I’ve been in, they are very affectionate in public as well as at home. Its a prereq lol

I am a black male and I totally agree. I’ve also noticed the bizarre looks and stares when black couples do express love publicly. It makes certain people uncomfortable.

  • gmarie

lol I knew someone would come in and sh*t on her hair. She got a man though..and he loves it. #shrug.

I pray that they don’t end up in the news in divorce court. For some reason, these people that are a couple, ended up in divorce the next month for “irreconsiable differences” (can’t get along)

  • Meyaka

They aren’t afraid, they just don’t care , I mean why should they? Women who demands respect are ostracized and called “angry , bitter ,silly” while those who are careless about themselves and willing to accept anything in order to “have a man” are praised. It’s a glorious time to be a black man, women don’t respect themselves or each other , all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the show.
I am happy and proud of the gibsons, I wish them a long lasting union, and mutual respect and understanding for each other.

  • Pivyque

Yeah, not a fan of her hair, but i’m so happy that she is in a good place. The little boy is a cutie! I wish these two the best. :-)

  • Adrina

I can’t grasp her message because her hair is blinding me. Ugh!

  • Yvette

This of course does not apply to ALL Black men, but unfortunately for some it is true.

  • TRUTH IS

Platinium blonde?!? You look a $%^**@*~

  • gmarie

I agree completely. She has a beautiful family btw. Baby looks happy, hubby looks happy..what more can you ask for.
