Child star Jonathan Brandis (from Ladybugs and “seaQuest DSV”) actually dated fellow child star Tatyana Ali from 1995 to 1998. After the two ended their relationship, Brandis struggled to find work outside of the child actor realm and was reportedly upset that his part in the movie, Hart’s War, which he hoped would resurrect his career, was cut out of the film. He drank heavily because of this depression, and commented on the fact that he might take his life. He tried to in 2003 by hanging himself, and wound up dying from his injuries. When they were together, the couple talked about the issues other people had with their relationship. As Ali told People about a confrontation with a former fan: “I want you to know,” he said, “I watch your show all the time. But now that I see you letting this white man date you, I will never watch your show again.” Though Ali admits “it hurt me that someone could disrespect what I thought was so special,” she insists such reactions don’t “do anything but make us closer.”
