Guess That Petition Was A Fail: Ciara Preps For a Comeback And Drops Video For Her New Song, “Sorry”

September 14th, 2012 - By Clarke Gail Baines

Try as some may have to quell Ciara’s voice (and her love for doing back bends), you can’t hold a good woman down. The singer has stepped back onto the scene with a new video for her song “Sorry.” If you were looking for something fast with a whole lot of dance-heavy visuals, you’re in the wrong place (you might want to try one of her older joints like “Ride”), but don’t worry, she’s moving and grooving in this new video, but more in the way of grinding on the ground and winding. Paired with one of our favorite pieces of eye candy, Broderick Hunter, Ci-Ci goes from room to room (and roof), singing sadly about a love that slipped through her fingers, promises that weren’t kept and the ring that’s supposed to be on her finger (50, what did you do!? Kidding!). The two have interesting chemistry, and the choreography is hot, even for a slower track, and all-around, I don’t think it’s a bad song or video (she even manages to pull some real tears out…). However, I still want this chick to work on her vocals. Her voice comes off so thin sometimes in the song that it sounds like she has a sore throat, and that’s not what’s hot for my ears. However, I can still see this being a favorite on black radio–especially during the “Whispers in the Dark,” meets “Quiet Storm” meets “Smooth Jams” hours *winks*

But I’ll let you check it out and form your own opinions. Is Ciara back!? Or is this a pass for you?

Saw the vid…..I’ll pass. I miss the “Goodies, 1 step, 2 step” Era.

    not feeling it.

That was whack. And she was trying really hard to milk those 2 and a half tears she “cried”. Atleast she looked good! Her hair is great and her make up was FAB!

  • Kayo

This is a pass for me and I doubt her album will do well.

Ciara is an RnB artist at a time when nothing but pop/electro/auto-tune sells. She’s not a strong enough artist to pull this off. So she should adapt.

Kinda reminds me of that song Promise she had out a few yrs ago. I loved that song. She’s not that great vocally….but she can dance better than all the rest. So i guess it evens out, lol.

The song and video are great to me. I’m ready for Ciara to come back. “Sorry” is in the same realm as “Promise,” which was one of her biggest songs. I think she excels on mid-tempo songs. I don’t like to compare other artists but, Ciara is better than Rihanna, vocally and performance wise. And I’ve been a fan of Rihanna since her “Pon de Replay” days.

I liked the video and song…she’s not bad like some are claiming her to be vocally, everyone doesn’t have to be a “sanger” to sing…sometimes “sangers” get on my damn nerve as well (beyonce, jill scott, patti labele) there is enough room for gentle voices to be heard as well…she conveyed the emotions of the song and that’s what matters the most…

    • Kayo

Ciara, gentle voice? She talks through her performances.

I haven’t lsitened to the song yet. But, aww thats a shame. People are so hard on her. She is a beautiful girl, can dance her butt off (probably dance circles around most of us) and she makes pretty decent songs. She may not be Patti or Whitney but I can listen to her vs. half the crap on the radio. I respect her hustle and she obviously still have people that are rooting for her because she’s back. O well CiCi get it while you can. You have a tough crowd to please.

  • Pivyque

After listening to the song, it sounds like they should have broken up and it should take more than a sorry to get back together lol I’m sure I heard her say “cause I put in mine and worked overtime and you never put in your work.”….So…? I won’t be listening to this lol

  • realadulttalk

Aren’t these the same songs that almost ended her career? And I’m using “almost” as a filler word…b/c IMO her career has been over.

    • TAnTAn78

Like that so much, I was gonna vote twice.

  • Candacey Doris

I hear too much computer in her voice to really enjoy it. Sorry.

  • me

Well, at least she’s apologizing for this comeback…LMBO! (joking…she’s not too bad)

You’re going to make the funny list next Friday! Bet they leave the last part off.
