Queen Latifah, Jill Scott And The Ladies Of The “Steel Magnolias” Remake Are Sittin’ Pretty In Promo Pics

September 12th, 2012 - By Victoria Uwumarogie

Anybody else excited about the Steel Magnolias remake? Initially, I wasn’t, being that I’m not a fan of remakes, especially ones of really, really good movies. But I’m always down to support the sistahs! Especially Queen La. Latifah, who is a producer for the Lifetime remake, has released promotional pictures of all the ladies dolled up. The movie is set to debut on the Lifetime Network on October 7, and stars not only Queen Latifah (as M’Lynn), but Alfre Woodard (as Ouiser), Phylicia Rashad (as Clairee), Jill Scott (as Truvy), Condola Rashad, Phylicia’s daughter (as Shelby) and Adepero Oduye, of Pariah fame (as Annelle). Check them out:

That hair on Queen = FRESH. She looks like she stepped straight out of a CoverGirl ad.

As pretty as that blue dress is on Alfre, she looks stunning in this gold gown.

Work Adepero! And the hair is looking wonderful as well. Can a sistah get some product recommendations please?

Both Phylicia and Condola look beautiful. And Condola is her father’s twin (Ahmad Rashad)!

Heeeeeey Jilly, girl! Looking good!

So are you excited about the remake? Will you be tuning in?

Saw the movie…thought the weakest link was Queen Latifah. Her performance did not flow. She just didn’t come off as someone’s mother. Alfre Woodard and Adepero were dead on in their roles. Condola did a wonderful job as Shelby. The role of Claree played by Phylicia Rashad was played well, but had none of the humor of the original role. Jill Scott was not as fiery and feisty as Dolly Parton was, and I would liked more insight into her relationship with her husband. This version was a little bit too refined….none of the feistiness that was in the original.

Although I cant remember ever seeing the original I am looking forward to the remake. Some of my favorites are in the movie, Phylicia and Alfre of course and newbies Condola and Adepero look absolutely amazing..I can’t wait!!!

I’m not really looking forward to it. I don’t think that they should remake this classic. I love this movie. Everything about the original seemed so authentic. This is a southern movie. Half these ladies are from up north. They are actresses, so hopefully they can pull this off.

What? This is a southern movie and half of them are from up north?! Huh?!! _/

In the original movie, the women have thick southern accents. If I remember correctly, they are in Louisiana. At any rate, if they were determined to do a remake, it should have been with women from the south. But…like I said..they are actresses so hopefully they can pull it off.
