Madame On The Street: Would Your Parents Approve Of An Interracial Relationship?

September 11th, 2012 - By MN Editor

We were expecting a more mixed response to our MOS question this week (would your parents approve of an interracial relationship?) but much to our surprise, many New Yorkers had a similar response to the question. Check out to see what they had to say, and answer the question for us in the comments section. We’d like to know!

Family wouldn’t give a damn. Parts of my family are like a damn rainbow coalition anyway.

Talking about relationships with my mother would never happen anyway,

My mother probably wouldn’t have an issue, but my dad on the other hand…. let’s just say, we’ve already had this discussion and his words were not so nice! At the end of the day, I’m my own woman, so whomever I decide to bring home for them to meet, they should accept it, and I’m sure they would.

my dad is the same way. I am african american and the guy i was into was mixed with mexican and african american. he felt ir was such a promblem and saying people that go for others out side their race has low self esteem. i am perfectly fine with my self and it is a issue he cannot change my mind about.

My parents wouldn’t care. They’re used to it. They’ll just be shocked that I actually brought a guy to meet them cause that never happens haha

In my family it’s not a big deal. It’s happened plenty. I don’t think this is a big deal to anyone anymore. Shouldn’t parents be more worried about their child’s happiness? Wouldn’t an abusive bf/gf be worse?

Who cares about this tired issue. Black people are the least likely to marry interracially, stop trying to make it happen.

LOL…they are really running out of topic. IR, is overtalked and I always wonder why black folks are more obsessed with it than any other ethnic groups. Oh, we are the a minority trying to get accepted by the majority.
