With Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week taking place, the world has got fashion, style and glamour on their minds. On Thursday, Harlem’s Fashion Row and Dark & Lovely hosted a blogger brunch to discuss the role of blacks in the fashion industry. Joined by a panel that included international model Sessilee Lopez (pictured above) and Corynne Corbett, of Essence magazine, the discussion turned to the challenges of the industry, mentorship and other topics. Black Enterprise covered the event.
“Alek Wek taught me how to be professional, also Naomi Campbell,” said Lopez. “Bethann Hardison is also my fashion fairy godmother.”
“Each season, less than a handful of designers of color are recognized,” said Brandice Henderson, founder of Harlem’s Fashion Row. “[It] shows that there is a next generation—giving them a place they can go.”
