People Telling You Not To Wear Heels And 6 Other Tall Girl Problems

September 6th, 2012 - By Victoria Uwumarogie

On our site, I’ve noticed we’ve covered a lot of problems that women deal with: black girl problems, skinny girl problems, and we’ve even touched on people who deal with “pretty girl problems.” But how could we forget about the problems of the tall sistah? From struggling with “floor-length mirrors” to having everyone assume that because you’re tall, you should play volleyball, basketball, and maybe even pull the long jump out of your a**, it really is always something. There are perks to being tall, but there’s a few things that happen because of our towering height that we can’t help but be annoyed by. Let’s talk about it real quick:

The Dating Pool Can Get Even Smaller; Aka, Short Dudes…

When you’re a short woman, you have the pick of the litter when it comes to men. Tall ones, short ones, fat ones, small ones, one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish. You get my point.

But when you’re a tall woman, you do your best to hold out for taller men, and even then they might not be taller than you. Some are just your height, and with heels on, they might end up looking like a little brother in the end. And don’t get me started on the 5″4 chicks you’ll find reaching up for kisses from their 6″3 boyfriends while you crouch for pictures with your boyfriend, who just happens to be an inch or two shorter. While you might make an exception for a shorter brotha you like, your hope is ultimately going to be for someone you can look up rather than down to. No offense!

I am a tall woman and I don’t mind none of these things. I actually had to come to reality, because I kept asking myself why do I come in contact with some of the shortest men. HAHA because I am a Amazon. As long as your confident I see no issues. We tall people need to unite and help the little people. Accept your tall glass of water ladies :)

      yes! help us little people,chile!

  • slymlady

OMG. Somebody knows my pain! LOL. Sometimes you just wanna blend in. Talk chicks never do. Online shopping, yes! Corny tall jokes, yes! Do you play basketball? NO! Why are so many men so short?? Ugh…. wouldn’t have it any other way. One thing was left out. Sista’s are already notorious for giving EVERY chick the head to toe once over. When your tall, its not just sistas. Its EVERYONE else too. Like they wanna know what you’re standing on. (p.s. ladies… if you aren’t hip to 6pm get on it for those shoes!)

I’ve encountered short men with bruise egos. Seriously, they believe that a short make cannot date tall female. What are they scared off? Could it be that tall girls could hide their food on the highest shelf, so they are unable to reach it. As for tall guys, they are idiots when it comes to dating a tall female. Tall males seek females who are WAAAAY SHORTER than them, When you look at the silhouette of a tall male and a short female, an example (male 6’4 and female 5’1),it looks like the man is dating his child, fo’real. I get annoyed at this height pairing of a tall male and short female. HELLO to all the tall men out there, tall girls exists!!!! We are on the same wave length as you, regarding height and difficulties that come with it. At time I get kinda agitated that short girls do not have any difficulties in the “male height department”. All I can say is that guys, (short or tall) are factors in how difficult it is to being a tall female.

This goes with not finding shoes in your size….BOOTS! If you wear a size 9 or higher, they assume you’re plus size, therefore making the calf as big as your thigh. I haven’t found good boots in YEARS…. ;0/

I can totally relate to the article. I’ve always been very tall and most times am the tallest person in the room, I’m 6’2, wear a size 16 and size 12 shoes. Shopping can be expensive but I still manage to look fly. Heels? You bet? I wear up to 3.25 inches all the time. The constant stares do get a little tiresome, however living in the DMV there are quite a few tall women so its not a big deal.

All These Problems I Face on the Regular Ever Since I Was a Toddler. I was Always Taller Than The Other Kids and I Hated it Then. It Probably wasn’t until High School That I Learned to Accept My Height & Own It. Now I Love Being “5’10″ With a Size 11 Shoe. Yea I have to wear Guy Sneakers Sometimes and all the Short Dudes Want to Talk to me at the Club, but I always get compliments on my legs and stomach. I Know Where my Assets are I Love to Show It.

I’m 5’8 and I wear heels, or any shoe with inches, to appear taller. I prefer not to blend in with the rest. I luv it!
If women didn’t like height, then why purchase 5 inch heels. There is a high demand for footwear with height.

  • beemari

I’m 5’11 and I was just in total agreement to this entire post! I used to hate being tall. I hated to be the center of attention, having people gawk, stupid questions .. but then I thought, GIRL, you’re not getting any shorter .. you better WERK! I love it now. I embrace it because it’s naturally who I am. I wasn’t meant to be a short chick .. i’m far too fabulous to be overlooked. No offense, ladies! lol :)

  • ijs

wow i didnt know tall ppl had some of these issues. i’m a shrimp *5’2 an1’4 in (yes the 1/4 of an inch matters lol) * and i always admired taller ppl with longer legs than mine.

  • J.Mo

This is so on point, Im 6’1(flat feet) love heels and soon as i find home im getting an extended tub lol……..its something you have to grow into; I wouldnt change my height for anything my mom always told me “You better own it” and thats what i do #teamTall #Amazing Amazons

    • j.mo

Also, i have recently found out ashleystewart carrys tall jeans and start at a size 10 and currently 19.99 (reg 29.99)

  • Big and Definitely Beautiful

I’m a plus size woman and I’m 5’10 1/2. I got teased a lot in school because of my height and weight. I have learned to embrace both and love myself. Screw society and what they think! I AM A BIG GIRL WHO ROCKS!!

  • Des

Finding cute 9 1/2 shoes is nearly impossible and the shirts these days never have enough length. I’m only 5’6″ but I have a large bust so I need all the length I can get on a shirt. It seems like even if you get a bigger size it’s just made wider, not longer. *sigh*

  • Flowergirl

Well I am 6 ft without heels, so add on 4or 5 inches when I wear heels imagine how tall that is. I was taught that Amazon was viewed as a positive thing rather than negative. I LOVE MY HEIGHT. Yes there are disadvantages like everything else in life. I am so happy to be tall. Many short women(not all) always tell me they wish they were my height. Not to forget that some men love long legs! (Tall and short ones) Case and point, I love my height and in the words of NENe Leakes when I walk into a room I demand the attention! Tall women better know it!

“Many short women(not all) always tell me they wish they were my height.” i am one of those admiring shorties!

    • Tall Jane

I am 6 feet without heels too! Growing up I did the slouch, always had my eye out for the tall guy in the crowd etc. etc….
Then for some reason the switch turned on, I embraced, and LOVE my height! Heels, YES!
Once that switch turned on, I met the love of my life, 2inches shorter than me! I don’t see his height or him mine, just the person that has love in his eyes. Enjoy it ladies, we are AWSOME! (now just to find jeans that fit!)

  • B.H.

This article is so true. I found a store at Northlake Mall in Atlanta that sells large size heels up to size 14 called Elevenup Shoes

  • examplesample

Some tall women prefer shorter guys, but we’re STILL out of luck because short guys don’t ask tall women out. Too many with napoleon complexes and insecurities about their woman being taller than them.

How about having to deal with years and years of corny jokes after the other… “How’s the weather up there” *eye roll*

  • Ann

I have problems find shoes. If you are a size 9 and up. You can hang it up. It seems like they only have one pair of shoes in sizes, 9 and up. If you don’t get them right then, you are short. I am not a real tall person, but I do have challenges in finding nice clothes for plus size women. It seems like they have more petite clothing than anything else.

  • D

I related to all of these issues, it was funny to read! I wear a 9 1/2. Growing up I used to be so ashamed of going shoe shopping. I would ask for a smaller shoe size in hopes that it would magically fit haha! My boyfriend is 6’5 so I lucked out but for many years I dated men either shorter than me or men I couldnt wear heels with and Ahhh lets not get to me being in the flood with my jeans

I find that tall men lack the confidence to be around a tall women. Short men love to show us off!
