Uh Oh: Actor Clifton Powell Accused Of Rape

Everyone’s favorite smooth movie villain may not be so smooth when it comes to the ladies. Actor Clifton Powell, better known as Pinky to the “Friday” fans, has been accused of raping a Louisiana woman last year and now she wants him to pay up.

Under the pseudonym Kiyante Myers, the woman filed a suit claiming Clifton raped her in a hotel room in August 2011. As TMZ reports:

According to the suit, Myers claims she initially consented to sex with Powell … but when it turned rough, she asked him to stop … and he refused.

Instead, she claims, Powell placed his hands over her face and raped her.

TMZ has learned … Myers went to cops about the incident last year … and an investigation was conducted. But cops didn’t feel there was enough evidence to prove Powell committed a crime and they closed the case against the actor.

Myers has now taken her claims to federal court in Louisiana, where she’s seeking damages in excess of $75k.

I don’t know about you, but $75,000 is awfully small compensation for being an alleged victim of such a heinous crime. Something seems a bit off with that claim, not to mention the fact that police dismissed the incident altogether.

Similarly, Clifton’s rep is dismissing the validity of Kiyante’s suit, saying:

“Mr. Powell absolutely denies these false accusations and plans on pursuing all legal remedies available to him against his accuser.”

Let’s hope the truth — whatever that is — prevails.

I’m not one to believe every woman who cries rape. I had a friend say some dude raped her — it was a lie. Unless of course you choose to believe he raped her and then she continued to have a relationship with him (both physical and emotional) So I don’t just believe those kinds of accusations. HOWEVER, something about this man has ALWAYS creeped me out. I’d never be in a room alone with him–so on my gut feeling…I believe her. I’m generally very good at reading people and his aura has always been off.

“But cops didn’t feel there was enough evidence to prove Powell committed a crime and they closed the case against the actor.” you say that as if cops give a damn about rape victims/survivors? a black victim/survivor of rape? forget about it.

I agree that no means no, but as a woman, I know how I get in bed. If my husband says “stop” and tries to get me off of him, I pin him and keep going because i’m assuming that he’s feeling too good…and I like that lol So..that would be considered rape if he actually meant “stop, I don’t want to do this anymore”. I think what needs to be established is if he KNEW that she literally meant stop or if he thought that she was just feeling too good or playing into that whole rough thing that was happening. Sounds like they should have had a safe word…but I sincerely hope that she wasn’t raped. If she was, she deserves every penny she can get. Money won’t solve everything but it will help her get some therapy.

what thats crazy. um there is difference between stop and STOP and playing hard to get with your husband and having sex with someone and telling them stop and them putting there hands over you mouth and raping you period. One stop is all that is needed. and let’s be clear- there is rarely a grey area dealing with rape. Beng raped changes a woman for her whole life. her whole life.

      • Pivyque

I understand what you are saying, but we weren’t there. Was that the only time that they had sex? If not, had they been rough like that before? I know that rape changes her whole life, but I am looking at this from a legal standpoint, not an emotional one. These are things that the judge is going to consider, which means they are things that she has to take into consideration and have an answer for if asked. I’m sure his lawyers are going to do all they can to get him off so she needs to be prepared.

In prison, not his money? Right now, she’s working with the only lane left open to her. She was shot down by the police, so jail isn’t an option. All she can do now is go after his money. And no, just because $75,000 is a low ball figure, it doesn’t mean something is fishy. It just means she lives in the poor state of LA. and that amount seems like a lot of money. I for one believe her. Why would she put herself through this kind of turmoil on the basis of a lie?

  • ThisChick

If she said “NO’, THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS!

I’m really sick of these high price hoes using “rape” as an extortion tool to get money. The sad part is, the law doesn’t arrest and convict these hoes when they get caught lying. Too many good men go to prison for a long time over this bullshit. AND,for those dumb asses willing to believe her after reading this article need to have your brain repossessed for non-payment

  • britchick91

The fact that she wants money says a lot .

What was her point to start having sex then stop I don’t get it was that her plan in the first place. (Let me find out) Nope don’t believe it, Can’t believe, Won’t believe. Until proven guilty.

$75,000 is the minimum amount of damages she needed to claim to get the case in federal court, so claiming damages “in excess” of that amount is common and makes complete sense here. Using that – and the police’s decision not to prosecute – as reason to doubt this woman is doing nothing more than putting the alleged victim on trial. Let it play out in court.

i didn’t know that. of course,i believe every woman that says that a man raped her.

  • Jobaby

    “IT’S PINKY, NICCA!!!”

  • Patricia

She is going to have a hard case to prove. She already started having sex with him and it got rough and asked him to stop…………….I don’t know. Her word against his.

    • MLS2698

I believe it because it happened to a friend of mine. She didn’t get raped , though. He bit her titay!

  • SalliP3O

Yeah because police dismissing a claim means the claim is untrue *insert eye roll here* It’s appalling & disgusting how many people claim what they would do if they “were raped” as if you know how you would feel after being violated like that and as if all rape victims have to act or would react in the same manner. Many victims never even report their rapes. It is a soul crushing experience. For people, especially women, to act like someone’s claim is false because you don’t “imagine” that’s how rape goes down is completely asinine! Shout out to the few women who have lied about being raped (which is way less in comparison to the ones who have been raped and never speak up) that has so many people ready to just dismiss everyone’s claim of rape. Even if this chick was suing for a million, then folks would be saying she’s just some kind of gold-digger.

Your a fool..your attacking the whole concept of rape..This case has nothing to do with what you said. Shes not even demanding justice, shes demanding cash. I thing I know for certain that all rape victims want once they report it is justice. The mere fact that she put a dollar amount on it makes me know its a bs case. I guess money takes away the pain of rape nowadays..what a joke

      well said.

  • get it right

That is not Clifton Powell in the picture! SMH!

    • You’re Wrong

I don’t think you know what Clifton Powell looks like because the man pictured is named Clifton Powell.

    • Mina

      Who is it?

    • sammi_lu

then who is it? Maybe you misread the name (Colin, maybe?) but it does say and is definitely Clifton Powell in the pic.

    • MLS2698

Who is it, then? Clayton Powell?

    oh geez

  • Gimmeabreak78

I don’t know whether the man raped her or not. However, if she was raped, she reserves the right to hold him to account both criminal and civil courts. It cannot be assumed that because a rape survivor is suing the attacker in civil court that the rape didn’t happen. Civil courts have a lower standard of determing guilt than criminal courts do. In civil courts the burden is a “preponderance of evidence” whereas in criminal courts the burden is “beyond reasonable doubt”. If a criminal case is disposed of because the D.A doesn’t feel there is enough evidence to charge someone or the the charges or dropped, or the defendant is acquitted, it just means the higher standard of reasonable doubt wasn’t met. The plaintiff/complainant still has an oppurtnity to prevail in civl court.

  • Mytisque

If something like that happened to me (and i hope it never does) I would want the man in prison, not his money.

  • sammi_lu

If I were raped no specific dollar amount could suffice, I’d want justice by means of incarceration. The fact that she is seeking monetary compensation for rape and that she admitted to having sex until it got too rough (her word against his) will probably lessen the chances of her winning if it even makes it to court. Then there is always the chance that this could get sensationalized because of his being an actor and that it is now been taken to a higher platform. These celebrities better start taking consent forms and releases into the bedroom because they are easy targets..if her claim he’ll learn the hard way that NO means NO.
