That Diva-Tude Isn’t Cheap: Patti LaBelle Pays $100K To Settle Parenting Tirade Lawsuit

How much did Patti LaBelle’s display of diva-tude cost her? One hundred thousand dollars.

Two years ago, in the lobby of the Trump Place apartment she was renting for her three-month, $50,000-a-week appearance in the Broadway musical “Fela!”, the singer broke into a profane tirade against a pregnant mom and her little girl.

According to the New York Post:

The Grammy-winning singer allegedly shouted the F-word, called the mom Roseanna Monk a “c–t,” and drenched her with bottled water after complaining that Monk’s then-18-month-old daughter was playing near the lobby door of an Upper West Side apartment building where LaBelle was staying in 2010.

When Roseanna — by then cradling her tot, Genevieve, in her arms — accused the “Lady Marmalade” singer of making the girl hysterical, an enraged LaBelle then allegedly had to be held back by her entourage and hustled into a waiting car.

Court papers said the child, now 3 1/2, has suffered “personality changes, sleep disorder” and “increased fear of strangers.”

That seems like a wild claim considering the child is three, but Patti’s lawyers knew the jury would never side with the singer. So, they settled the case before it was deposed.

After the suit wound up in Manhattan federal court last year, LaBelle denied that she was “liable in any way for any alleged claims of injury” and said the Monks were “more than 50 percent at fault.”

The family is probably not hurting for money though considering they were staying in the same building as Patti LaBelle. Still, I assumed they’d put the money in a college fund for their daughter and use compound interest to send her to school in 15 years on the singer’s dime. It turns out they’re donating the money to the Hope & Heroes Children’s Cancer Fund.

Ironically, Patti’s temper may help save another child’s life.

What do you think about this story? Does 100-thousand dollars seem like too much or too little?

People need to control their children. I’m not saying Patty is right but I am a black woman and sometimes, at the slightest raise of my voice, my white coworkers think I am fussing. Even if a smile goes with it. There is a misperception that black women are bitter. They had to hold a 70 year old woman back? Yeah. Ok. Also the world is not playground and the lobby of a 5star hotel definitely is not. People pay good money to stay there & this is what you deal with?

While I don’t agree with adults acting the way Pattie did, as a mother I don’t agree with people letting their children act the fool either. Both parties are probably wrong in this case. Maybe Pattie should move into a building that is child free and this mother should learn to control her child.

This kid was probably running around creating havoc! Some people don’t parent well…..I was at the car wash the other day and a 4 year old was going in and out of the door where people drop their cars off and the mother was nowhere to be found, she was all the way down a long hall and around the corner where the register was. By the time she realized and came running he was out the door and could have been injured by a car.

Well, Patti’s behavior was uncalled for.. Against a mother and her babies? Wow.

please, some parents have no idea to create boundaries, for their overindulged, spoiled brats. I’m sure that they allowed their child to behave as she wished, and for them to comeback and say that now their daughter is having mental problems for it, that’s a crock of bs. They went after Patti for her money, and the lawsuit was frivolous, should have been thrown out of court. This is BS, this country is so freaking racist it is a pitiful shame.Had she not been a celebrity with money, would they even have filed a suit. Russell Crowe, physically assaulted someone, and he paid a whole lot less. I hope that child grows up, a perfect hot mess

What type of evil witch would wish that someones child grew up to be a hot mess. You are a mess.

Apparently, the author of this article is not a parent or even understands the psychology of a toddler. Kids at that age soak in everything. My son had to have surgery at around 18 months, and still to this day he says “Hurt” and points to the area of his surgery. This claim is not completely outrageous. What I find disappointing is Patti’s behavior–maybe she’s forgotten to take her hormone medication. Who knows.

Girl Alissa stays on her high horse belittling people in every article she writes. Its always a snide comment like, she’s like that anyway thy will be divorced soon or something off the cuff and insensitive like that.

      • Alissa

Nope, I don’t belittle people and I definitely don’t own a horse. But if I did, it would be pink because that’s my favorite color :-) .

    • Alissa

I understand that toddlers can be traumatized. I’m also aware that people will say anything to win a lawsuit. I don’t think *surgery* can be compared to a crazy woman yelling, but maybe I just grew up in a loud household lol

    • olivia

I was about to say the same. You can never underestimate how easily children can become traumatized.

  • TRUTH IS

Nice way to twist Patti’s uncouth behavior into a positive…..NOT…we have to share this planet….be considerate and ask nicely….problem solved….I know kids hv no behavior sometimes but yelling and disrespecting will not solve the problem

  • Ihatepayingtaxes

Smart move on the family, Patti is paying their taxes! Their donating the money for a huge tax write-off. Brilliant idea!!!
