From The Root

Shortly after it was announced that Rep. Paul Ryan would join the Romney ticket as this year’s Republican vice presidential candidate, I wrote a piece titled, “What We Know About Paul Ryan and Blacks.”

Wel,l I recently learned of another significant addition to this list.

As reported on Twitter by CNN’s Pete Hamby, Ryan said he has a black sister-in-law, but perhaps even more interesting, his “college sweetheart” was African American.

So here is the million-dollar question: Is the fact that Ryan has dated interracially a noteworthy detail to consider when analyzing his politics and policies?

Black women secretly lusting after the white man, like this Ryan’s girl.
Yet we are the “sellout” for falling in (real) love with white women?!
    smh.

  • nannablue

It doesn’t matter and its not new. What he is supposed to get a free pass inthe black community and the black vote because he might have dated a black girl? We aren’t that damn gullible. PS I dont see the black girl friend bragging about dating him.

This is where the concept started so it’s legit for MN to ask this question “As reported on Twitter by CNN’s Pete Hamby, Ryan said he has a black sister-in-law, but perhaps even more interesting, his “college sweetheart” was African American.” Why did he mention this?

So in your deluded mind Ryan is equivalent to thurmond?
    Got it.

  • Janet P

Ryan is the only solution after obama’s failed leadership.
But everybody knows blacks will vote along brain-dead tribal lines.

  • sendthemback

Wow times have changed, because all president Clinton had to do, was play the sax on the Arsenio Hall Show, go to a few black southern churches, admit to smoking weed, for black folks to proclaim him as the first black president. If it wasn’t forObama, black folks would still be all up on him, never mind his administration didn’t do anything for black folks. times are definitely changing.

I guess him once dating a black woman years ago and having a black sister n law is suppose to hold some merit on his behalf but it doesn’t mean a thing. If he get into the VP spot, he is going to stick it to the poor just like his running mate will.

    I can’t.

Whaaaaaaaaaat? Not surprised, as Paul Ryan is a pretty white dude, I could see him bagging up a Latoya. For as much political news as I watch, why hasn’t this been made more conspicuous ? Get on it GOP

  • calixteliss

I think its a bit hypocritical to now say it does not matter since had the opposite been true- a black politician with a white wife- it would have become relevant information.

    • Pivyque

Notice what you said there…WIFE. This is a “college sweetheart”. Obama dated white women i’m sure and nobody really cares…Ryan is not married to a black woman and who he dated doesn’t change a thing about his politics. Relevant information? I wouldn’t call it that. Useless information? Yeah. Lol
