50 Best Moments in Black Television

50. En Vogue’s appearance on ‘A Different World’

For all the individualistic Internet we use these days, most of us grew up sharing communal moments with our families and friends in front of the television screen. And, when our hotties come over to spend some time, we’re more likely to cuddle in front of the T.V. set with them than in front of the computer (unless of course we’re cruising this site, then it’s totally OK!!!). For these reasons, we’ve decided to dedicate this week to the warm days of T.V. watching, when illegal cable wasn’t so illegal, and everybody wasn’t so anxious to punch silly things into the Blackberry every five seconds! From ‘Good Times’ to programs shown just yesterday, we present to you: our 50 best moments in black television!

(special thanks to Mike, Tee, Jeana, Reggie, Grace, Seun & Ejay)

COMING IN AT #50, this fan-favorite show, ‘A Different World,’ spawned from Bill Cosby’s genius in the early nineties and contained more T.V. gems than anything you’d see on T.V. these days. We miss the show so much, but we especially miss the days when celebrities like En Vogue could appear on a sitcom in hilarious personas and endear us to our T.V. sets! Remember the above video? Pure genius!

An entertaining and reflective reminiscing list to be sure. I liked that it had a mix of the serious and the fun stuff! And certainly some of my favorites- "Cosby Show" "In Living Color" and "A Different World" were all shows that I followed weekly, and still enjoy the reruns. Thanks for showing Philly some love with the Fresh Prince intro entry : )

And for the anti-Kanye remarks- okay, we know the man is in need of an ego diet, but come on ya'll. We gotta be able to give him credit for his talent and intelligent creativity. I certainly wasn't mad at him for his Bush/anti-black statement during the katrina travesty. And that VMA moment was just too entertaining : p

    How'd you compile this list?

I am so sickend by the way Kanye West acts always making comments about people being raciest when he clearly is what he did to Taylor was so uncalled for. Alot of people think others are better than some doesnt mean you should take away someone elses moment I think he was just trying to score points with Beyonce Grow up Kanye

The black man who took the mic away from Miss Swift, a young inexperienced white girl, was an assault and he should be banned from all future awards. His behavior was insulting and bordered on criminal.

What the hell? Whitney's 2002 interview is one of the best moments??

China Okasi hates Whitney or what? And her national anthem is only 22 %

I loved this list! I would have liked to seen something from Moesha, Girlfriends, 106 and Park as well. Or even African Americans on mainstream tv, like the Young and the Restless… Anyway, good list:) Oh and what about what's happenin'? So many options:)
